The 15" wheels have a very rounded design, which mirrors the rounded curves of the MINI, especially the front end. Wheel choices are a matter of personal taste. It seems some like a much more aggressive, angular look. I do agree that the stock tires are fairly narrow, but even with my puny 15" wheels and my skinny tires my MINI holds the road very, very well.
The MINI is also, well, mini, and 15" wheels are certainly in proportion to the overall car size.

No, you shouldn't. All of the MINI OEM wheels from the beginning have had bolt holes that are ~16mm in diameter, so they'll work with either the older 12mm bolts or the newer 14mm bolts.

As far as the bolt holes go, any MINI wheels will fit any MINI, regardless of year. You will have brake clearance issues using 15" (and some 16") MINI wheels with the first-gen JCW brakes or the R56 'S' brakes, but that's another matter.

If you replace run flats with traditional, you'd better buy a donut and make sure it fits the front and rear!

I went for the original 15" wheels on my Clubman D.. But just because i did´t want 16" on my wintertires..so thats why i choosen the 15" ones.. they look horrible though. So when i got home I imediatly swpped to the GP wheels
Ill say minimum 17" on a clubman.. maaaaybe 16" but i prefer 17 or 18"
