If Bruiser is the name that spoke to you then keep it. Otto named himself as I confiugred him and although I considered renaming him Chudleigh he was always Otto. Haven't regretted it at all. Everyone calls him Otto now.

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with "Bruiser", if it is Black & Blue. What is her suggestion?? If it is your car, meaning financially supported and Titled, then she has NO business telling you what to name your car. IMHO

I noticed the name the first time I saw one of your posts, very cool - and not so obvious - you have to have paid attention or (like some of us) read the books umpteen times; For playful, I'm thinking Pippin or Peregrin Took might be a good name.

We have names for all our cats(felines), but those are not usually the names that we call them.

"Cricket - more commonly called "shtew"
"Lucy" - goes by "boobie"
and "Chip"- goes by "stupid"

A name will come to you. MINI's scream personality, I believe that is one of the reasons many of them get names.
I was just thinking- she calls most of her cars "Betsy", but since she chose the checkered cloth, the checkered interior trim, AND a checkered roof...I may just tag the car as "Chubby".
We'll see if she goes for it.

LOL. Trust me, it's nothing like that. She will be the first to tell you that I typically do what I want anyway. I just do the proper thing and ask her opinion.

5 years ago a put a supercharger on a truck I had....she found out about 7 months later. That was an interesting day!!

That's what I was wondering; I never mentioned "Miska".

I said earlier that my wife liked "Gizmo". But actually it was my 11 year old daughter's suggestion.

Yup, loved the books. Tolkien was a scholar on the old writings of British myths & legends and infused a lot of that into the books. You can see that in the Bombadil character. He seems to be patterned after what is typical of ancient gods that are only remembered folk tales where they are converted into acceptable contemporary characters. Many of the old Celtic gods got converted this way when the Welsh & Irish myths were written down my Christian Monks. Sir Gwain is a good example. IIRC, Tolkien wrote a nice essay about Sir Gwain & The Green Knight where he describes Gawain as a sun god, weak in the morning, getting stronger until noon, then his strength ebbing as it gets toward evening.

Peregrin (as in pair of grins) would be a fun name for a MINI.
I know of one person who named her MC, Samwise.

You might want to pay attention to that. Naming cars falls somewhat into the category of acting like a kid. It was easy for me, for even though I'm 61, I haven't actually decided what I want to do when I grow up! So don't give up on GIZMO too quickly.

Having said that, I tend to be of the opinion that you need to wait until you actually hold your little baby in your hands first before you can be sure. Our son was going to be "Adam Jeremy" until we saw him, and then he instantly became "Jeremy Adam".

And lastly, I also tend to be of the opinion that men's cars are female, and women's cars are male. Old fashioned, I know, but that's where I'm at.

When I brought the Clubman home, it went through the neighborhood 'guy inspection' and passed.
We brainstormed on names and since Sparkling Silver is really more Olive Green, lizard came up.
From that, I modified it to Dragon Wagon. Green Lizard = Dragon Wagon.

And...today when leaving the mall, a Cooper R56 owner's family accosted me to find out how long she'd have to wait to get a Clubman. People LOVE to come and look at the Clubman! They've the seen the Cooper, but not the Cooper Clubman.

Well, my wife shot down the name "Chubby". I thought she might go for Chubby the Clubbie, but no.

She said the name would come to her when she drives it.

Definitely words from the wise. I guess I should have already learned my lesson. I too had an interesting name situation with my oldest daughter. I was already convinced that she was a he, and therefore was going to have the name of Dan (for Dan Marino) somewhere in his name. Well, imagine my surprise when what I assumed would be a son was actually a dautgher! Her middle name is DANielle.

Having known Ron for about 12 years and being my best friend, I will attest to that statement... Ron's gonna do what he's gonna do...

By "asking" his wife, that's his way of politely telling her what he's going to do.

Works for me.

Mark

PS. I'm voting for Bruiser.... just wish I could come up with a name for mine and/or license plate....

Then your license plate could read 2GRINS.

Mine is named Sterling. It sounds British and he's dark silver/silver. I really think that he named himself. It just came to me one evening.

Wilbur here - just an archaic English name that will probably make a resurgence in the UK soon alongside Archie, Murray etc.

1x vote for Bruiser btw.

Elsewhere I posted the name of my new hot choclate
Clubman S. All the other Minis I've had have been
chilli red with full uj roofs. They have been named OAF,
OAF 1, OAF 2,. These didn't seem appropiate for the
hot choclate Mini so I start thinking. Then an old childs
poem came to mind and thus came about The Gingerbread
Man.

The name of the car is one thing, what I put on the tag is another. So here are some options:

1) Bruiser (blue/black combo)
2) Bruised (again, for the black and blue color)
3) Bigun (southern slang for Big one)
4) 9" Longer (since the car is 9 inches longer than the Cooper. It should get some interesting remarks)

What do you think?
