There was no mention of whether the base Clubman was a stick or an automatic. Based on my two test drives, I also found the automatic to be a bit underpowered, but the stick was fine, at least for me. Also, the Clubman has very tall gearing on the stick, with 4th, 5th, and 6th all overdrive gears. Maybe the reviewer just didn't downshift as needed.

I didn't even know CNET reviewed cars. I drove the automatic on 95 and found it plenty good, granted there were no big hills. Me thinks this reviewer is firmly in the camp of what she calls "the haters". C'est la vie.
