R52 Prohibitive Wind Screen
Prohibitive Wind Screen
Despite the advantages I have read about on this forum regarding the windscreen, I find the price prohibitive. They seem fairly basic in construction, and although there is a limited market, I cant understand why they retail for so much. Does anyone have a site for the most reasonably priced screen or know of an OEM or aftermarket screen that doesnt push the $600 CAD price tag -checkered or plain? I would love a blueprint design to see why they are so expensive and if I could figure a way to reproduce a cheaper model for myself. Cheers, Christo

I did a 6 or 7 hour high speed drive from VA to NJ last weekend with the top down the whole way - and it was delightful with the windscreen in place. Normally, when I do expressway driving without the screen, the wind eventually gives me a headache - the screen saves me from that. A little buffeting but not the "fire hose" of wind hitting you in the back of the head.

Sad to say, I paid full price for my checkered windscreen ($475)
and my husband full for his regular ($425). I know of a guy in our club who paid just $100 for his checkered.
So look around, you can definitely find them for less.I'm not using my windscreen so much in the summer. I find I like the breeze. It does extend the top-down season, though. When the weather is cool, you can have the windows up and the windscreen up with almost no air movement in the cabin. I stay nice and toasty that way.

I saw someone driving a Miata the other day with a piece of cardboard taped between the headrests, you could always go that route.
Seriously though, we got ours for around the 300 dollar mark from Morristown Mini, and it was worth every penny. We took a road trip to the fingerlakes in NY and were able to keep the top down the whole way there and back (about 8 hours each way) and still have normal convesation/radio volume.

Looking at the arrangement in the Cabrio. I wonder if a stretchable, transparent fabric insert between the two front seats and extending up to the top of the headrest would block enough wind to be usefull.
Another option would be a peice of plexi-glass attached between the 2 headrest posts.
