Don't know. I got a Miltek on my '05 MCc. I have had rattles ever sense the USS was put on. I have had 2 washers added and 3-4 different trips to Steve's to try to fix it. It still rattles. While the system works as advertised as far as improving the handling, the rattling is getting so annoying that at this point I am considering removing the USS. I am trying to be as politically correct about this since both Randy and Peter are great guys and the M7 customer support is outstanding, but I wish there was a better answer than: "Yeah, we know"

Every time someone sings M7's praises, I weaken just a teensy bit more.

Jerry we have had the USS installed successfully on several Miltec cars and Steve was instrumental in helping out with the clearance issue. I would love to know when you are in the neighborhood again so I can take a look under your car and see what the issue is. There are two fixes that come to mind. If it is the single brace that runs across the middle perhaps remove that one piece and still maintain the vast majority of handling improvement. The second solution is more drastic but as I know you are performance oriented and drive the hell out of that car , I've seen it with my own eyes . You will be faster with the USS and a stock exhaust than you will be with the Miltec and no USS . Do you want to SOUND faster or BE faster Either way is fine of course it just depends on your priorities. Every exhaust we have seen except the Miltec fits, and even some of those do as well, but not on your car as yet. I think we can come up with a fix , keep in touch.

I should be at Steve's on the 27th for some stuff I need done. I would love your assistance in possibly resolving this issue. Another pair of eyes never hurts. Ideally I would love to keep the USS and the exaust. There is no way I am going back to stock exhaust. I hated the way that thing looked. Just as a note, I get the rattle mostly when the car is tilted backwords as in going up hill. Seems like the can at the bottom of the header is hitting the USS cross bar. Steve and I already bent the lip on the can to try to create more room, but the rattle came back.

Anyway, if you can make it on the 27th, I would love to get your opinion.

Duh! My bad, I meant the 26th. I should be there when he opens and will probably be there for couple of hours.

I'm must be missing something here...it wouldn't be the first time. M7 told me what the fix would involve, I finally did it correctly, and there is now no issue with the USS when installed with a Milltek exhaust. Why the banter back and forth here between anyone and M7 is beyond me. Pete, just tell the man what you told me and the problem is solved. It is not a top secret, jeez.

I repeat!! - the MillTek issue is fixed on our car - we used a file and channeled out the brace where it contacts the resonator.

The noise issue now is that the front trapezoidal brace is hitting the stock catalytic convertor (wear marks are there to make it obvious). You might recall....we had issues with the RF nut insert. Fixed that by putting it in at the same angle as the drill went in (worked like a charm), but we couldn't use the washer under the insert. We put it on top, which in retrospect means it positioned as intended (one washer + brass insert). The solution might be a second washer, as it overlaps the cat a bit and a little more clearance should do it.

Why don't you just tell us. I am sure Peter won't mind.

Randy, I think I have resolved the issue. The clue came from a different thread. Apparently the Miltek expands and shrinks as it gets hot and cools down. Almost by an 1" in my case. I grabbed the exhaust tip (WHILE IT WAS COLD!) and gave it a few good tugs. No rattle afterwards after 2 days of driving. I am sure it will change after a few more heat cycles, but for now I can live with the fix. I will still be at Steve's on the 26th, if you want to stop by.

I think I saw the same thread, something about the shrinking Miltec. With that in mind perhaps some adjustments with the exhaust hangers or clamp sections may help. I still plan on comming by in any event . As doe Petes suggestion by all means feel free to describe it. We have no secrets when it comes to fixes Thats it for today, Off to Monterey

If Pete can tell me he can tell the rest of this group. Protocol requires me to yield to Pete. I will say it didn't involve pulling on my Milltek...it may have involved pulling on my hair, what little is left. I have no rattle and it is a great system. I know Pete is rolling in the floor about now.

OK, enough beating around the bush. If some one knows of a permanent solution to this and obviously there are a few people who do, just post it. It's not a trade secret and some of us could use some help.

What protocol? What are you talking about? If you know of the fixe, post it.

P.S. The rattle is back.

the resonator hits the mid cross brace (the straight one). There's no way around it on the Milltek (as it's right by the flange and expansion pushes it forward a bit when heated), except to look where it hits and clearance the aluminum brace with a file. We dare not take a hammer to the seam on the resonator, for fear of splitting it open.

Want me to post pics of the 'clearanced' mid brace?

The issue we still have is the front brace is rattling on the stock cat. When pulling it off to add more washers, my husband pulled the left nutsert out. Guess the 'red' Locktite he used should have been the 'blue', eh?

I asked my husband to pull the kit off my car....my commute is 8 miles each way and rarely any spirited driving and the noise was driving me nuts. He'll put the kit on his car, since he's getting a different exhaust. Randy - Any chance you could drop two more nutserts in the mail to us? If so, I'll PM our address.

Got the JCW front strut bar coming for $250

Morristown Mini is having a huge sale this month.... JCW front strut bar for $250 + FGT. Front Badge holder was $18.00! Never thought I would see a mini dealer discount anything and they do deliver!

Installation of the strut brace is simple with a Torgue wrench! (a must have anyway for a Mini DIY person)

from what I have been told it's fitment is superior to the M7.

I have enough of M7. They have great stuff, but are small time and cannot supply stock to dealers. Would rather use the next best! I like the JCW at $250 ( BUT NOT AT RETAIL...That is insane) better anyway mostly because of its fitment!

In my opinion, a front strut bar doesn't make enough difference period to justify $400++, not to mention you can get the same performance for alot less than the factory option. Get the M7 bar for $200 and take the difference and put it towards getting the USS.

Randy,

Any chance to have Peter post what the fix is for us Miltek owners? I am sure it would be much appreciated.

gizzer why don't you tell us who the dealer is that can't deliver a STB or what ever else you sugest we (small time business) can't deliver.

For the record we always carry 100 of almost everything we sell that includes STB's, USS, DFIC's and more. Call us small time but don't BS just to
make a weak point.

I'm slightly confused about this secret fix, and I apologize for not recollecting the " secret sauce" but I do receive hundreds of calls, emails
and PM's every week.

With that out of the way.

Please tell everyone you have my blessing dude.......

Ok...

OK...find one dealer that has received an OCC in the past few weeks or does M7 have them in stock...NO!

I did not mean to pick on M7 since I have already said...they make good stuff...but the dealers spoken with all said their shipment was due any day...that was weeks ago! They also complained about shipping from the company being erratic at best...to name a few: Seven parts, Kass, or any other sponsor in NAM.....

SORRY Again. it is a nice product. I also like the M7 front strut brace...just liked the fitment of the JCW (but only at $250...Not 400) better
