Convertible top problems in heat?

Anyone else have problems getting the top down after having the car sit in the sun for several hours? I put the top up to save the interior from the sun and to protect items left in the car (is that a legitimate reason to have it up?) The car sat in the sun for about 5 hours at 85 deg +. When I tried to put the top down it only moved about 3 inches and locked up. Finally got it closed, then blasted the A/C for 15 minutes and then it opened fine. First time I've had problems opening, but then again, first time it sat outside for an extended period as it is usually in a garage.

Not sure about taking it in to the dealer without a better idea that the heat was the cause.

Thanks

We've had 90 degree+ weather in St Louis for the last 2 weeks. I have not had any problems at this point in opening & closing my top. I do put my top up whenever I leave the car parked on a lot or am concerned about it's safety. Plus the interior will get pretty hot while just sitting in the sun

At any rate, your problem does not sound normal. If it continues, a dealer trip is probably needed.

When the Convertible first came out there was some issues with a sensitive motor overtemperature device tripping due to the heat of the car / weather. It was supposed to be fixed.

But my friends Convertible is currently at the dealership being worked on due to this exact same problem of not opening in the recent hot weather. Rather defeats the point of having it, really

There were many of those posts on MINI2 with the early Euro production runs. My August build has never had the problem and I have it in the heat all the time.

Hopefully it was a one time thing, because you might get a wedgie or worse according to the new 1 888 DO NOT CLOSE ad campaign
