I met a fellow 1st Gen wrencher at a salvage yard today, who has an '05 R52 S. We both had been checking out an '05 R52 (non S) that had just landed the yard with Chrono Pack gauges and center clock. He has a single speedo on the steering wheel but has a dual set of gauges (Chrono) he wishes to install but for some reason it doesn't fit his steering column. However, the junker has them....

Question: Was the Chrono pack available as an option for the early R52's?
Is there a reason why his twin gauges wont fit his steering wheel column of the same year?
Has anyone with an R52 done the Chrono pack swap?
Thanks.
AFAIK the mounting plates are different between the single and double gauge clusters. You'd have to swap the whole thing including the mounting plate.
This can be done, but it not a plug & play kind of swap. Odometer and VIN number are stored in the central cluster so they need to be viriginized and coded to your car,
otherwise you'll end up with a bunch of lights, a non-working DSC and a different odometer reading. There's a thread here about swapping the Chrono. Give it a read.
