Remove Parcel Shelf, but still operate top?

I took out the parcel shelf from the rear of my '05 R52S a few days ago to save space. Today I was out driving and wanted to put the top down (Finally warming up here!), but it would only open to sunroof mode. The light on the button would blink rapidly if I tried to put it all the way down. I checked the little levers in the boot, but no luck. I got home and threw the Parcel Shelf back in, and the top went down!

My question is: Is there a way to remove the parcel shelf, but still be able to operate the top?

There's a push button switch on the passenger side right under where the rear 'foot' of the shelf fits. It has to be depressed, tape it down or some other way to hole it engaged. Also, as a pro-active approach, add a small pad of some sort where the boot door closes that switch, the throw of the switch is very short. It has been a bit of a problem from time to time. I used one of those felt chair leg pads and never looked back.

Alright thanks.

I think i’ll leave the shelf in there for now, because from what people have said the rear window rests on it when the top is down and I really don’t want my window to break haha.

Its basically there to ensure that you definitely have space for the roof to fold into, so I think you are wise to be cautious about physically bypassing that interlock mechanism. The shelf itself has an upper position if you need to increase the amount of trunk space, but of course if you do that the roof will not open beyond the sunroof stage.
