As my adventures in Mini repair continue, I pulled off the oil pan to replace the gasket and check for chunks of timing guide. Check, chunks present, timing parts ordered. As I’m looking up underneath the car I am wondering if...
1) Is this discoloration normal? and...
2) Yes or no, should I try to clean it up someh
ow while in here?
I’ve done and learned a lot on this car, but I’m not sure I’m ready to dive into pistons and valves and rings and such. At 78k miles, should I be trying to do anything in here? Pic for reference attached.
Looks similar to the color in my motor when I had the valve cover off to replace the gasket at 80k. I don't know much about engines honestly, but I think the color means it's maybe been pushed a little far on oil change intervals, but could just be normal. as long as you're not seeing sludge, I don't think I'd worry about it, but hopefully someone with more knowledge and experience will weigh in.
