R52 cup holder extension

Hello fellow Mini lovers! I have just about had it with my 2006 Mini cup holders. Because that’s what they are - MINI. The one that can hold bigger cups, on the passenger side of the middle section, always moves and isn’t very functional. Do any of you know of any other cup holder that will fit in the Mini? Or some kind of cup holder extension?
Thanks so much!

Sound like you have a Mini Fini cupholder. If you find it dissatisfactory especially it being too small, I would just refrain from commenting. Cupholders get bigger, and so do the Mini's:

mini (classic) > Mini (gen 1) > MINI (gen 2) > Maxi (you guessed it) I predict there will soon be MAXI given the current trend.

i don't eat and drive so the Mini cupholder suits me perfectly; the pivot is so you can swing it out of the way should you need to fold the seat for accessing the rear seats

Thanks for the replies. I have the original cup holder that attaches to the top of the column on the passenger side, and when it pivots it hits my fan controls. I like the one in the picture, I think it’s called the Mini Fini? That one is lower and seems like it would be out of the way. I do love to take my water cup with me!

Not clear which one you like. One secret with the Mini Fini is there is just one mounting height that allow it to pivot both directions out of the way. When I have a race meister riding with me on track, I can swing it all the way inboard and can still not interfere with my vigorous lightning fast gear shifting.

The Mini Fini was the original standard issued MINI cup holder in 2005 until the chorus of the big gulp crowd crying out down with it for being too tiny.

That's exactly why mine is on a shelf in the garage...also to remove co-pilot's temptation to bring sippy stuff aboard.

Our cup holder acts as a fun meter. When it flops back and forth in the twisties and the right seater is whining louder than the SC, then we are approaching some real entertainment.

I was shocked when I saw the bigger swinging cup holder on the MINI (or is it Mini, I thought I at least knew what kind of car I had purchased!). I assumed that the prior owner installed an aftermarket contraption until I realized it had a MINI logo. It is big enough to hold a drink but it holds it at an angle. I suspect I will be taking it out and putting it on a shelf in the garage as well.

I use the cup holder in the back which is close enough and big enough to work.

That said, I do prefer the no eating or drinking rule and may go that route.

...and I also see that you have the correct vehicle over which to express those worthy thoughts. Except that big ugly black thingie is spoiling the picture.

You go fast enough on the twisties to make it flop back and forth?

That black canvas, it's supposed to be hidden away. Only reason mine goes up:
1: It's raining or getting a bath.
2: It's snowing
3: Co-pilot whining loudly about being too hot or cold and I can't hear the SC.
4: A bunch of drunks throwing empty beer cans in the back seat and didn't
invite me.

Once. And that was inadvertently.

I still remember when MINI added these and dumped the MINI Fini one from the dealerships as an oem part. I talked to the MINIUSA reps back in the day and the number 1 issue they had complaints on at the time was the small cup holder. When they are new they are tight, when they get older like mine since 2005 the little top mount plastic wears and they flop around if something is heavy in there. You cant get the parts separate but i have seen people modify them to stay straight with the black little top tooth and the bottom main plastic ****.

There was also a gunmetal version.
