Before aftermarket engine mounts, they were common....tsw made a nice one..one added minimum NVH, and an older one that Added more. (The damper tube was the differance) gave a better feel, but did not increase the life of the oil filled mount by much...about every 35,000 miles I would pop one..it would leak oily goo...and the MOTOR would rock.
So necessary? No. Give a slightly better feel on a launch, maybe.but if the engine feels like its moving, I bet your mounts are already bad.....and this can cause clutch issues overtime.

Is your passenger side mounts leaking ? Is the engine movement easy by hand on the top of the engine ?

I don't think so. I was just thinking as preventative measure.

The reason to get one is to improve shifting and clutch feel, not as a preventative measure. The engine mount will still fail, although it might last a little longer. I had a stabilizer on my R52 and it was well worth it for the driving improvement.

Just want to make sure it was not used as patch fix.

No. First Mini and reading a lot about mounts. Plus like a dog I am marking my territory by personalizing the Mini. It's a 2008 that had less than 7k when I bought from my brother two months ago. He always has toys he seldom drives and then decides to clean out the garage to my benefit. 911's, BMW 850, etc. All had very few miles when he sold.
