Convertible top

The convertible top latch does not disengage to open the entire way. Hoping for a simple fix ( wishful thinking) but was informed by dealer that I need the entire motor housing, etc. $2900 repair for an 05 w 100k miles. Does anybody know of a less expensive alternative? Thanks

yes I do...the cable mechanism has pulled away from the cable...the cable is pinched in the mechanism and comes free. You can replace the two cables (they are sold in a pair) for 440 from ECS tuning. There is a utube video showing how you do it...it seems complicated, but really is not once you follow the step. Most dealers only replace the entire top for thousands...not the cables....I live in St. Louis and could help do it...it takes me about 20 minutes to disassemble the top.

I am also looking to buy someones broken cables....the fix is somewhat temporary (recrimping the cables/ JB weld etc) but having a spare set wound would be nice...the problem is that when I tried to put mine back in, I snapped the plastic...and this is unrepairable.

Please clarify "The convertible top latch does not disengage to open the entire way" as this doesn't sound like the typical cable failure where the sunroof either won't open or opens unevenly. I have an 05 that sunroof appears to open evenly (cables intact) but opening of top stops just when you expect hydraulic motor to kick in to lift the top. Please see the thread in this forum "Locking hooks broken, convertible top" for a full description of what I'm seeing to see if you are having the same behavior.

Thanks!
