Leather seats stitching pulled apart

I have a 2006 standard and the driver's side leather seat pulled apart on the outside stitching on the top quarter part of the back part of the seat. The car is in great shape with 45k. Always stored the the winter. Anyone else had a problem? I think it's due to sun rather than wear. The threads just pulled apart.

Any good upholstery shop should be able to sort that for you. One thing I do frequently is to use the narrow wand on the shop vac along all the seams in the seats. Dust, grit and all the crap that falls into the cabin when the top is down is bound to cut the threads eventually. Probably not what got yours but the seat bottoms could be next. I learned that the hard way with my old '62 TR roadster.

I had the same thing happen and finally got it fixed yesterday. It cost $266 and change. It looks like new. I did learn that in my climate, I should be applying conditioner to the leather 3 or 4 times per year.

Yes I had the repair shop look at it and he said the leather seemed a little hard in some spots. I going to treat them a couple of more times to see if they will soften up...

Great product for leather and/or leatherette - Leather Soffner from Color Plus. Not cheap but works great! http://www.colorplus.com/

(and no, I do NOT work for them)

Leather Seat Repair

I have the same problem. Driver side leather bucket seat, stitching nearly gone. My local Dayton, OH car upholstery shop quoted about $360 to refit the seat with all new leather.

He said someone tried to color the seats, and the dye caused the thread to deteriorate (used car).
