sidewalk tire talk

Hi all have an 07 sidewalk with 17" wheels. currently they are 205-45-17 continental run flats SSRs. Tires were "new" when we got the car and the fronts are now getting worn after only a little more than 20K of use

This is a daily driver that goes on an occasional long trip. Not looking for summer tires at all but a good dependable all season as I deal with snow ice and cold for 3-4 months a year. I am not really keen on the run flat ride and could live with a regular flavor with a few cans of tire slime and AAA. A vist to tire rack
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...45&diameter=17

brings up the above list any personal experience with any of these?

The car is not driven aggressively but having some grip and good wet weather traction is a plus.

good wear/milage, acceptable grip wet/dry, snow competency, quiet ride, ride comport are the key factors i am after.

thanks for the help in advance

I replaced my OEM runflats with Bridgestone Potenza G019 Grid from Costco (they're also listed on your Tirerack for a similar price). Costco price came with a good installation/replacement/rotation/road hazard package. I did have to buy a donut spare from Detroit Motoring ( <$100) before Costco would install them. The spare sits proudly in my garage.

Texas weather won't give me cold/wet weather expertise, but they do fine for my commuter car and hopefully for a few long haul trips this summer. The ride and noise seem to be an improvement over runflats.

My wife bought an '06 MC about two years ago with new Bridgestone G019 Grids. They are giving good wear, but are not very good in the handling department. At the time, I would have chosen the Yoko ENVigors in the same High Performance A/S category.

I think there are some even better non-runflat tires in the Ultra High Performance A/S category. Some of those that I've seen people post their satisfaction with are the Conti DWS (great in snow for an A/S, but gives up some cornering stability and steering feedback), The General G-Max, the Kumho 4X, and the Michelin A/S Plus (the most expensive). All of those apparently give fairly good tread wear; at least compared to high performance summer tires.

currently I am thinking of the DSWs

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

Should have similar characteristics to the SSR better tread ware and ride. Plus they come with road hazard not bad for a buck 19 a tire.

I do not see why you cannot get 40K out of any of these tires. I have had several sets of summer tires that have gone 25-30 and they were driven hard. 22K on these SSRs with daily driving duty is just criminal.

EDIT

Anyone have a how to or has done this!!! this would be ideal with a dog-nut spare

Update:

Wife hit a major pot hole on a road trip when she was about 160 miles from home and sure enough the left front run flat died as a consequence. Given they were on their last legs I had her replace both fronts with DWS's and head home. Will get the back two this week (it was hard enough finding two in the middle of nowhere)

So now that I am thinking about the sad fact that the MCS has no spare (really dumb)

questions:

if you changed the exhaust to that of a MC would you in fact be able to mount a tire?

Has anyone done this?

thanks

Plus folks have actually explored the option of removing the batter (relocatinging it) and getting rid of the battery bump...just to route a strighter exhaust...(and try to gain a bit of hp).
So that is not the issue...
tiny breiel racing battery in trunk...very littlr reserve capacity....
so some folks toss a doughnut (compact spare) behind a front seat or trunk for longer trips....detroit tuned stocks them.

Interesting mounting option....might need to fab something up, but pretty simple with a reciever hitch...or a mini do more hitch if still around.
Toss a nice cover on it, and good to go on a longer trip...
just check fitmitment...read somwwhere the compact spare only fits on the rear....so you might have to put a rear on the front then compact on the back if you have a front one fail.....

yes check this out (just found )
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-cooper-s.html

hub size for the civic and the mini is the same

JWC brakes will make the wheel not fit the fronts but even if you have them you just need to swap a rear wheel for a flat front and then put the dog-nut on the back. I will figure this out. I am not going to do the exhaust relocation given I am not a welder but the tow bar idea will be pursued

Ok I am getting these within the next month or two this looks to be exactly what I need.

I just replaced my run flats with Hankook V12. Got a great price and a $80 rebate from the manufacture. I like them so far. They are quiet and handle quite well. I just carry a plug kit and small electric pump. Unless I have a total failure of the wheel or sidewall I'm pretty sure I'll get home or to a service station.
