New to NAM - looking for advice

Bought my 05 cool blue Cabrio S 2 weeks ago and am LOVING it ! Have been reading extensively and have gotten a lot of great information of this forum. My Alta 15% pulley came yestarday and am planning a CAI and one ball mod soon. Seems like everyone has their favorites on CAi for power and loudness - I haven't seen comments on power and QUIETNESS. What are your thoughts on which CAI makes the least noise?

Welcome to NAM!

I added the JCW airbox and from what I've read from others, it's the quietest. That would be due to the flap that it has. It has a wire that get's tapped into a spot in a nearby fuse/relay box, which somehow signals the flap to open at 4500 RPM. The opening of the flap is done by vacuum line. The kit comes with decent instructions, and I had mine done in about an hour, but that was my first mod (back in '06) and I was going slow trying not to screw anything up.

It works as designed and the supercharger whine gets louder at 4500. Up to that point it's barely noticeable. The amount of power it adds is more difficult to judge. The power gained by the switch to the 15% pulley on the other hand, will be easy to feel. The One-ball is said to add one or two HP, but again, unless you've got a sensitive butt-dyno, it's hard to notice. What will be easy to notice is the change in exhaust sound. When cold, my sound is a bit 'tinny' and within 2-3 minutes it mellows to a tone that's lower and more throaty.

If you happen to get all three mods done on the same day, you'll notice a substantial difference in acceleration.

Sounds to me like you're on the right road...keep reading the forums.

Motor On...

Won't make any difference in drive train performance but will make a big difference in driver and passenger comfort and convenience. Find a wind deflector. OEM is expensive but they can be found on ebay. Make sure it is for the R52. The one for R57 won't fit.
Another thing you've gotta have is a light-in-sight. Go to http://www.lightinsight.com/
makes seeing those overhead traffic lights possible.
Also, a good tire repair kit of some sort.
Topless motoring is motoring at it's best.
