05 convertible top wont open

My 05 convertible top is stuck in the closed position. I can hear the motor, but it doesn't unlatch, not even to the sunroof position. Any ideas or threads are appreciated.

I wish I could help..Mine wasn't working either. The sunroof would work, but that's all. I fixed it myself..Cleaned the stowage lock switches and greased the sunroof rails..works like a champ..and saved almost 2 grand(that's what the stealership wanted to fix it)

New question to post:

2006 R52.

1. How to replace license plate light.

2. Anyone know if any vendor sells a program option? Dealer says can't use key FOB to raise/lower top outside the car. Is this
true? Is there any way to program this function? It is in the owners manual,
but the dealer said the feature is no longer available.

I have a 2006 R52 as well. I don't think that you were ever able to raise the top by remote control. You can lower the top via remote control, and you can raise the top/windows by putting the key in the door, turning it clockwise and holding it there.

As far as the dealer-programmable options go, it's weird, but some options come and go over time. The owner's manual says that the dealer should be able to program the car so that the first press on the remote unlocks both doors and the trunk at the same time, but three different dealers have tried and failed to program that option on my car.

That's weird - my '05 R52 unlocks the doors and trunk at the same time, but it won't raise the windows with the key in the door only lowers them.

I think what Mini needs to do is add some more computers to these things, that'll make 'em better!
