Motor Noise

Just bought my first Mini '06 convertible. We love the car, wish I knew this years ago. I have a question, when the top comes up, it seems there is a lot of motor noise. I have a 350Z too and the top make very little to no noise. Is this normal or what is everyone's experience. The car is still under warranty, should I have the dealer take a look? I don't want to say it is "laboring", but it is somewhat loud. Any comments?

Congratulations on your cabrio...we all love picture here at NAM if you want to show it off

Now on to the noise...where is the noise coming from? The sunroof portion of the top is controlled by a motor mounted above and between the front seats. So that motor is going to be just above your right ear. Maybe that is why it sounds loud to you.

Or is it after the sunroof opens? It's hard to tell what is making the noise by text alone

Hopefully it's fine & maybe someone else can chime in with any other advice.

Mine's a bit noisy, but I wouldn't call it abnormal (I was on vacation a while back & rented a convertible Mustang, it was just as loud). Since the car is still under warranty, it certainly wouldn't hurt to have the dealer listen to it.
