R52 HORNS
HORNS
HORNS
I have a pair of Griot's I-talian ultra compact air horns.
2 questions
1. Has any body installed these in Mini? Where?, I'd like to replace the stock US horns in the same location and I want to use the existing steering wheel horn button.
2. Do the OEM horns run off a relay so all I need to do is mount horns and split the 2 wire connector and connect to the new horns?
I figure if I ask question now I won't short anything out...

the stock horns sit one on each side behind the front bumper...not much room for the air horns. I've seen some mount them in the airbox, pass side front of the window....be careful there's brake lines up there...
The factory horns do run off a relay but if you want to be doubly safe install a relay with your new horns. Use the existing horn line as the relay trigger.
Many wire the new horns an addition to the factory horns rather than in place of and I recommend you think about it. Every set of these small cheapo airhorns that I've bought has crapped out in under two years. Having replaced the stock horn (Miatas....weak horn) it was not fun to be in a situation where I needed the horn, pressed and got 'squeek' when expecting HONK. First time I thought was a fluke.bought new set, second time got me trying to find a perm' fix with a new set and third time I replaced with a set of matched Italian electrics which now live in my 79.....
