Wow... I think I would just get the tin top instead... This is not only ugly, but I don't think that it would work very well... lots of air is going to come through between the seats....

That's "definitive" alright!!! What is it defining? I have not a clue!

Have not tried it but here are my observations: No access to the rear seat unless you remove it completely and re-install it. No way to store it in the boot. You cannot have the front seat position at different angles (one further forward than the other). The lexan tends to rattle when the wind hits it, unless it's of a considerable thickness. I tried using it for the rear seat windscreen and had that effect that's why I discared that prototype.

If you wait about a month, I should be ready to start producing more of the Aftermarket windscreen.

I actually got one of these for my old Miata and it worked very effectively and you certainly can't beat the price. Even though it may look clumsy it allows unhindered vision which is a big plus. The rear one would be great for your rear passengers. As far as rear seat access, the OEM doesn't even allow anyone back there at all so I wouldn't knock it too much. I still have a problem with the cost of the other windscreens on the market so in that respect at least this one gives another option.

^ I could see it as more usefull on the Miata, but I agree with everyone else's comments on the screen for the MINI.
By the way, if you liked it on the Miata and liked the price, how come you didn't get one for the MINI?

As far as I know this is new on the market for the MINI. I bought my Cabrio two years ago and at the time the only thing available was the effective but overpriced and over engineered OEM which I bought. I may actually try this out and if it works I may sell my OEM and use the money for other mods. Heck, you can make one of these yourself for about $30. All you need is some plexiglass and a couple of adjustable straps. Should take about 10 seconds to put on or take off. Not as elegant but it IS effective and will save you about $300. Lots of Miata owners have done this.

rear occupant

I agree with the front seat comments. My interest is in the rear seat model. No other wind deflector design protects the rear seat occupants and I would like to be able to provide a more comfortable ride for my kids.

Well... at least it's cheap...

Will we get one? Chances are slim to none...

banjoez, if you do decide to sell your OEM blocker, shoot me a PM.

I'd like to know if it really helps the rear passengers at all. if it does, maybe get this for the rear and Brownflyers windscreen for the front as well?

I've seen the plexiglass windscreen on a Miata... didn't really do anything for me visually. Plus, I would be concerned that the plexiglass would create more glare from the sun and actually impede vision out the back... and we all know how great that vision out the back is

A guy on the Z4 forum tried one of these made for a Z. Said if buffeted in the wind and made a slapping noise. Said he wish he hadn't wasted his money. Your results may differ.

That's the same results I got with the prototype I made for the rear seats. You can see the pictures of it in the "Aftermarket Windscreen" thread.

As for blocking the rear passenger, yes but limited. You need the side windscreens for the rear passengers as well. Keep in mind that any time you're trying to block the wind, it creates a low pressure zone and the wind rushes through any openings. Consequently, the air rushes through the sides.

The purpose of the windscreen is not just to block the wind but to eliminate/control wind turbulance. This is why the mesh material is so effective. It blocks the wind and because it allows some of it to get through in a more control behavior, it minimizes air trying to rush into the cabin.

I am a little perplexed by this thread. My wife has a Cabrio and I have had Cabrio's as well. The purpose is to have the sun in your face and the wind in your hair.

So let me get this straight, your are going to have a piece of plexi between the front seats, a piece behind the rear seats, and a piece on each side of the rear side.......... Ok. Enjoy that Plexi-cocoon of yours.

Yup, I've tried this set up.. in fact, that's my NEMO in the pictures. NOT happy with it all, ONE BIT. This guy contacted me to make the prototype... I gave NEMO to him in very CLEAN condition.. he didn't respect NEMO at all, and it even shows in the pictures. Look at the foot prints on the back seats, the plexi dust everywhere, there's now a 'rip' in the back seat where it looks like a box cutter knife accidently fell, and he also broke my cute little warning button over my roof buttons.

Oh wait.. you want to know how the screen works LOL.
So the rear one that sits between the back two seats is ok actually, but the one that sits between the two front seats is useless.. it felt more of a drag than a help.. and also, I was worried about the plexiglass scratching my plastic seat backs while motoring. So, there you have it.. I have a OEM windscreen which I use all the time, while the other just sits in the garage collecting dust.

Wow, if someone abused my car like that after doing a favor and loaning it to help design a prototype I would be really ticked. He must have actually did the grinding, fitting and cutting while the plexiglass was in the car!!! In the pictures your car looks like it was in a dusty barn for a couple years.

And the piece over the back seats looks like it could cause wear marks over time as it rubs on the head-rest leather.

I was beyond pissed.
(And i'm still cleaning dust out of my car!!! It's been almost a year now!) I vacuum NEMO at least once a month and there's still crap that's coming from between the seats, or where the front seat folds forward)

Yeah, I didn't want any of it rubbing... so I took it all off.
Sure, great idea... VERY poor follow through.

The purpose of the rear windscreen is for the kids! I get emails wanting to know about the status of the rear windscreen because they want to use it for their children. If my kids can sit back there longer with the top down, that just means more time for me with the top down.

BTW, you must have me confused with the "other" guy. I sell the aftermarket windscreen that goes on the front seats and is made of Mesh. I'm sure you're familiar with it.

Please say Hi! to Stacey for me. I trust the windscreen is working well for her.

Aahhh ok. Yes, it is working well. It also works out when we are both in her MINI because I have the seat all the way back and reclined back because of my size.

I may buy one of these for my MINI to use as a dog screen.
