R50/53 270HP Mini Cooper
You may want to check your friends credentials... If it is an M3 motor that they would put in, it would be 333 hp. BMW went to the 333 from 270 hp in 1999. I was reading this thread and just asked by buddy doug... he owns a 2003 M3. That car haulls bunns.

With the rumor about the softer shocks, I for some reason highly doubt that they will be making the MINI 'tighter' any time soon... and a 'tighter' MINI would be flat out un-driveable in WNY... My teeth rattle some times as it is... could you imagine how it would drive over concrete expansion joints? egads, it would kick you off the road...

Nice topic!
First of all, MINI is a natural for WRC, but they have to build a 4WD car for it. I don't know the rules re: production cars and rally cars, so we might never see it. But I'd be really surprised if it didn't eventually exist.
Secondly, I've also seen a BMW M3 engine-equipped MINI somewhere on the web. It was in Europe, maybe Holland.
Finally, please do all the parents on MCO a favor and don't say "pooped my pants." It hits way too close to home.

"They're familiar because the FIA stipulates that every World Rally Car must originate from its fourseater road-car and be available to the general public (so at least 25,000 of them must have been built). But that's where the similarities end..."
This was in reference to the cars used in the WRC quoted directly from the site. While the model must be offered to the public, the car is pretty heavily modified (300bhp turbocharged 2.0 engines). I don't know if most of these cars are even offered to the general pub. as AWDs.
So MINI could actually be building a WRC prototype but it could possibly never even be for sale. I'm with most that I would love a MINI that's comparable to a STI or EVO in specs. These cars are as close to a WRC car as one can get.

>>They are also going to start racing with this car in the WRC and he says it will kill everything else out there, and then they will have a tamed version for everyone else sort of like the WWRX STi. We can dream can't we!
If they are going to be running the car in this sort of thing.. wasn't the limitation the fact that the MINI wasn't long enough according to the rules? If there are inches being added to the car... this might mean it's aimed toward rallies and all that, right? Just wondering..?

I hate to say it but I am somewhat disappointed that they went for the obvious historical angle by using Cooper's kid to work up high perf edition. I would have much more confidence and I think we would have seen a lot more return if it had been left in the trust hands of BMW's M division. M-Mini? A little to m-m-m-moley sounding m-m-maybe?
