EDIT: On Speed Channel today 5/31/03 at 1:00pm EST! If someone could please record it for me (I have no VCR) I would greatly appreciate it!

MINIclo and I just returned from the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham Alabama where we have been hanging out for the past couple days as the guests of Tony Nuzzo of Nuzzo Motorsports and the rest of their crew.

SPEED is televising the Barber 250 race on May 31st at 1:00 pm Eastern Time, and they will be broadcasting a 45 second segment in which they compared my stock BRG/W MINI Cooper S with the Team Nuzzo's heavily modified race car.





Thanks to Tom Moore of Darkhorse Motorsports and Tony Nuzzo for setting this up and for hosting Clover and I in the paddock areas. Amazing to see these race carus up close!

Amazing to see how much modifications they make to these cars. Side exit exhaust, relocated intercooler. Also neat that the drivers really liked the interiors of a dolled up MINI and commented that the sport seats were very nice and looked to be very supportive. And they LOVED the Anthracite interior accents in MINIclo's Wicked Wanda!

The intercooler is front mounted and is the silver top part of what looks to be the radiator. The radiator is below the intercooler and although the two are separate, it appears that they are welded together into one solid unit.

They are running in a somewhat "stock" class, but these MINI's are just bodies with a heavily modified original engine. The tires on these were huge 225/45/17 if I remember correctly. and there was some significant body cutting involved to squeeze them in the wheel wells. Intake was large and the exhaust exited the right side.

Headlights are actually replaced with photograph decals of MINI lights! :smile:

 

One thing to notice is that this team considers the chassis to be stiff enough not to install an upper strut bar.

 

wat kind of front grill is on that thing!!!! it looks so sweet, i would love to get that on my car....!

The front grille appears just to have been removed and replaced with black metal mesh: cut to fit and riveted or screwed in.

And....Yucca's BRG/W S looked SOOOO good next to the racing MINI for the SPEED channel segment! I can't wait to see the show!

Grand Am Cup racing doesn't allow for a larger intercooler, so Nuzzo moved it to the front. At the FL race they were having serious problems with leaks causing boost loss and had to pit to work on it a couple times.

If anyone could be nice enough to hit the record button on an old VCR I would greatly appreciate it. I have no VCR but someway somehow I will get a copy of this.

YUCCA, Got the tv in the liv room on and recording AND the one in the bedroom. They got boat races on right now so I think we are on a different time schedule on the West Coast. But will record all day if I have to. WE WILL NOT BE DENIED.

My guess is that the MINI clip will be in the second half of the show, as the MINI's were racing in the ST1 class and right now they are showing the GS1/GS2 cars.

Love those sweet porsche's. Best looking one in the bunch up close is that baby blue one! Looked like a piece of easter candy in real life! They would not allow me to taste it though. . . .
