R50/53 Water Where the 6-CD Changer Goes
Water Where the 6-CD Changer Goes
Last Sunday, I installed the XM Direct/BlitzSafe combination in my 03 Cooper, and have enjoyed my XM stations this past week.
After a couple days of not driving her, I went to go get the tinting removed from my front windows (this is another, LONG story...) and could not get XM to come up on my head unit.
When I got to the tinting place, first thing I did was check out my install... the compartment where this was all installed (i.e., where the 6-CD changer normally goes) was soaking wet... I pulled the components out to take a look, and water flowed out of the BlitzSafe unit
. We had drenching rain two days ago, so that must be when the water came in, while sitting in my driveway.
I immediately pulled the XM Direct and the BlitzSafe out - am letting the BlitzSafe dry out - hopefully it will still work... (I am a EE, so I know this is possible, but probably not likely... although I know people who's cell phones continued to work after drying out following a fall into water)
Does anyone know what might have caused this? I checked my antenna install, and there was no sign of moisture anywhere along the install - only found water once I got into the compartment in back... I do have a sunroof, and I have read through the various threads on here about drain hose issues. However, since there is no moisture in the passenger compartment near the A-pillar, I don't think the hose has become disconnected at that end... nor do I think it is clogged, either, for the same reason (believe me, with the water I saw today, if it was disconnected/clogged, there would be plenty of residual moisture in the cabin...)
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I'm betting on the sunroof drain hose. I had the problem a few months ago. My problem was in the rear of the sunroof...the battery compartment was half full of water. Look under the carpet in the boot in yours. (Battery compartment if it's a Cooper S, spare tire compartment if it's a Cooper)

Just went out and checked under the tool kit tray in the spare compartment... fortunately, it isn't flooded, just a dozen or so drops of water...
Any suggestions as to which end of the drain hose this is? I live in Jersey, and according to the NWS we have a major nor'easter heading our way on Sunday...
