R50/53 Stock shocks/springs - cabrio versus hardtop?
Stock shocks/springs - cabrio versus hardtop?
Are the stock shocks and springs for the convertible 'S' different from the shocks and springs on the hardtop?
I'm getting ready to replace my stock cabrio suspension with some coilovers, and before I sell/trade/give away the stock setup, I'd like to know if they're suitable for both the convertible and the hardtop, or just the convertible, since I'm sure that question will come up.

Thanks!
So, if a Cooper owner wanted to upgrade to 'S' shocks/springs, they could use parts from either a convertible or hardtop 'S' - the springs for the convertible might just be a little stiffer?

I don't know what the technical differences are. I checked into it when I put FSD shocks on my MCC and wondered what to do with my nearly new stock shocks (still sitting in my garage).
I think cabrio springs on a hardtop may raise the car. Or at least when people have installed the same lowering springs on cabrio and hardtop, the cabrio goes slightly lower. I know that when you purchase JCW suspension, they go as far as to match it to options on the car (e.g. sunroof).

Yep, and the distinct differences are a large reason why the JCW suspension is not available (officially) for the convertibles.
I'm very happy with the FSDs. As you hit road imperfections, they absorb the initial impacts better and the bumps feel less sharp. Yet at the same time they are stiffer than the stock struts and there is less roll when cornering and less pitch when braking.
