I hate for my first question in the forum to be a dumb one. However, here goes.

My wife (and I on occasion) drive a 2002 Mini (Yellow with a black top). It's nickname is Sunflower (for obvious color reasons).

Being rather mechanically challenged, I cannot figure out how to replace the rubber inserts of the front windshield wipers. It simply looks impossible! Is there a secret I don't know about?

 

At either end you'll need to pry the holder apart a bit (the metal tabs that are holding the wiper in place) then try to slide the metal reinforcers out. Upon re-assembly just tighten them back down a bit.

 

If you get the inserts from the dealer, they include a little tool used to tighten (and IIRC, spread) the end of the wiper blade, as well as picto-instructions.
