R50/53 Steering and Transmition problems???
Steering and Transmition problems???
Well, long story short, I purchased my mini damaged and repaired it with all the original BMW parts...
None of the engine components were touched but now that it's on the road(since last night) I have a couple of concerns...
When moving my steering whell left or right I get this noise (whining noise) that kinda sounds like steering pump but I'm not sure if that's the case?
Turning off the car makes this noise go away gradually in a second or two, like it's some kinda fan shutting off...
Second issue is with the gears I believe...
When the car is in neutral engine sounds beutiful but when in gear I get this noise that is more noticable in higher gears (after third), fifth being the loudest. Noise is coming on only when giving gas so while the pedal is depressed there is no noise coming. I'm kinda worried about the gearbox and being that I'm completely new to MINI world this kinda stuff has never happened to me before.
Any help would be great...
Thanks

The high pitched buzz that changes while turning the wheel is normal, that's the electric power steering pump at work. Some are louder than others, and to someone who has never had a MINI before, can be disconcerting at first.
The sound you say you hear when accellerating could be the supercharger (if you have an S). Since most people in normal driving dont hit the gas as hard in lower gears as they do in higher gears, you tend to hear the supercharger doing it's bit in these cases. Winding the engine out in first and second with the pedal to the floor results in a nice scream from the supercharger, but not a whole lot of time to enjoy it in most traffic conditions.
And welcome to NAM!
