Speedometer Needs to be ajdusted

Hey guys,
I have a question. I have currently 17" rims stock and i want to actually just put 15" rims because i live in NY ( TOO MANY POT HOLES ). I wanted to see if someone could fix the speedometer for me for exmaple right now its calibrated for 17in rims but if i put 15in on that means im traveling less distance because the tire radius is smaller. so is it possible do get it recalibrated. ??? where do i goo??
should i go back to the dealer??

Mount tires on the 15s that equal the same diameter as the 17s w/ tires....

Not really...

You just need to keep the same overall circumference and there will not be an adjustment necessary. Go here for help on the proper size tires: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...foTireMath.jsp

For example a 205/45/17 and a 215/55/15 are virtually the same.

Hope this helps...

I put 18s with 215/35R18 tires on my car...supposedly the same overall diameter and when i pass one of those portable Police speed things that says how fast you're going, it's always telling me I'm going about 2 - 3 mph slower than my speedo.

I had a mustang a few years ago, and Dallas mustang made a Speed Calibrater where you could adjust your speed if you change tire size or gear ratios....it would be nice if that existed for MINI's.

MINIs position

is that they won't adjust speedos for any error less than 10%. They have some gizmo that plugs in and can fix it, but they won't make changes based on just cusotmer requests... Sucks, doesn't it?

You could consider the 2-3 mph difference as a cushion...

...against being ticketed for speeding if you are in the borderline (going 60 in a 55 zone may or may not get written based on the officer's discretion; going 57 in a 55 zone is almost certain not to get written - the claim of speedometer error becomes compelling at that point).

My speedo appears to be off 5 mph according to my GPS but not sure which one is right and not sure if it matters that much.

My money is on your GPS being accurate... my Nuvi tells me that my speedo reads about 4% fast at highway speeds. I believe it.

I've measured my speedometer against stationary radars and a GPS. The stationary radars and GPS both tell me that my speedometer indicates almost 10% faster than I'm actually going.

Oddly, my odometer seems to be within .5% (5 parts per 1000) of dead on.

I wish the speedo could be calibrated.
