R50/53 Mods? How to tell??
Being an "S", the most common is the supercharger pulley. The easiest way to tell is to look at it. The factory has a press on pulley while the aftermarket do not. The aftermarket tend to have a flat face with bolts, usually 4, holding it together. Besides the pulley. The obvious would be the intake and exhaust. Another pulley to look for is the crank pulley. The best way to tell the difference is the stock is very thick because of the damper while the aftermarket is as wide as the belt.
Congrats on adopting a "pre-loved" MINI.

Chances are... none (sorry to say). Most folks who mod will bring their car back to stock before selling or trading, since those mods can be sold for a higher dollar value than they would bring when traded or sold with the car.
The best places to look are covered above (pulley, exhaust) since those are slightly more difficult to remove. Check also the suspension and brake pads, and for little things like iPod hookups, etc.
Oh - and welcome!

Thanks for the welcomes!
Probpem is though, I have no idea what a pulley even looks like. Seems I have a lot more to learn than I thought!
Even if I knew what one looked like, without seeing both belts how would I know which is thinner, wider, thicker, skinnier?
a MINI center would know right?

Welcome to NAM :-)
The stock supercharger pulley is black in color & will have no visible bolts on it. Many of the aftermarket sc pullys are silver in color. As has been said it's a push on one. Believe it or not most MINI's don't have mods until an enthusiast buys the car. That would be you.
