R50/53 Does Glove Box Lock (Automatically)?
Does Glove Box Lock (Automatically)?
When you lock the car, does it also lock the glove box? Or do you have to manually lock the glove box in order to secure its contents? I'm thinking of the situation in a cabrio where you leave your valuables in the glove box and leave the top down. Is it sufficient to just hit the lock button on the key fob?

My $0.02 - don't leave anything of value in a convertible unless it's in the trunk (boot). I haven't examined the glovebox lock in the MCS, but they're generally anything but secure. In the Miata world locking something on the inside of the car just means that whatever it is you lock gets trashed, then they take your stuff. Not pretty, but true.
Well dang, I was really hoping that it would do that. I hope BMW and MINI are taking notes and add this feature as an option in the future. It seems like it would fit right in with the "Convenience" package.
What I would really like is for the glovebox to unlock automatically once the car is in motion. More than once I found myself reaching for my sunglasses in the glovebox only to find I left it locked. After the last time I've stopped locking my glovebox - the small added security was outweighed by the annoyance of having to stop the car to be able to unlock it.
