What should I offer them?

OK ive been Mini Cooper S shopping and havent found the perfect car yet, but i have had my eye on a few.

If you remember my LSD post ive yet to find one in my price range yet, but im working on it.

However our local dealer has a few New 06 MCS's 2 CR/Whtroof and 2 CR/Blkroofs with Premium, cold weather and Sport packages.

These cars are close to what im looking for, but not quite perfect. But who knows i could always strike a good deal on them.

Im holding off for now as theres a couple small options i want such ans Tartan seats and LSD, but if i do go for one of these in the end or can make a good deal what should i offer them for it?

All of them list around $24,450 give or take $100.

My guess is that you will be very lucky if you get the dealer to discount $500 off MSRP on either one of those cars in stock. I doubt very much they will be willing to go any lower, becuase they really have no immediate incentive to get rid of the cars (there is always someone willing to pay full sticker, specially if it is a customer who prefers the old car over the new R56) and you are eating right into their profit margin. Profits in these cars are very low, more like $1500-$1800 per unit.

I would say based on my experience (I got $500 off MSRP) and that of many others posting around here, $500 off MSRP should be the minimum you can get - and I'd push for a little more. Of course, if the MINI market is tight in your area, then you have less room to maneuver, but I would think you should have some leverage these days.

Thats sort of what i thought, because of:

a. ppl are selling and trading up for 07's

b. Consumer Reports says that the Minis are more regularly available and more of them are sitting on the lots than before.

I know ive looked at several hundreds that are close to what i want already. Just havent found that "ONE" yet. And i may not, but i can get it as close as possible with only ez upgrades left to do on her.

I'd ask for $1,500 off and not settle for less than $1,000. Many dealer lots are full of 06's, a new model is coming out, lot's of used MINI's are available, and the "fad" buyers have mostly moved on to something else.

Looks like a buyers market to me. Just remember, when the dealer says, "that's as low as I can go," it almost never is.

After you get the price you want, be sure you don't give it all back when financing through them. They may quote a 1/4% higher interest on a purchase or lease or add loan origination charges. See if you can get better rates outside the dealer or just tell them you have a better deal, low ball it, and see if the come down. you can play their game...

I just bought a 2006 MC (which I pick up Saturday) from a dealer that is offering $1000 off of MSRP on all in stock 2006s. It happened to be the perfect one.

I would think $1000 should not be hard to negotiate.

financing

totally agree on the point on financing. MINI's offers were nowhere near competitive with what I could get through my local credit union - I'd shop around on that as well if it is an issue with you.

Got $1300 off MSRP

On Jan 29th and 30th I called around and talked to dealers within a 500 mile radius of Omaha, NE. I had already searched their inventory and recieved MSRP pricing. It was very interesting that some were $2k over MSRP to some having $400 advertised off.

A dealer in Chicago agrred to $1300 off MSRP on a MC, I am gto Chicago in the morning ($138) and will drive a MC home tomorrow............no doubt the 07's were motivating htis dealer who had 60 Mini's to move before the 07's come in..........

I got a written quote and placed a binder on a BRG color on the 31st. I'll let you know how the 500 mile journey turns out...........

Did you verify beforehand the mileage and whether or not the car was a demo?

Great, enjoy your new MC...and don't let them add anything in after the fact. Did you ask them how much their "documentation fees" are?

Best to get one ASAP. The first semi-nice weekend, they start to fly off of the lots and all chance of dealing is gone from that point forward.

+1 on the financing advice. Don't tell the dealership that you're planning on financing outside until the paperwork is written up, though. That way, they may "think" that they'll be recovering their "deal", until it's too late for them to back out - and try to get some floor mats and especially wheel locks thrown in.

Documentation fee was $58 and they did not try anything except to sell additional service contracts (which I declined)...... The lot was extremely busy and I had to wait in line to get the paperwokr processed as at least 3 Mini's were sold this morning. They did not not have enough help to handle the traffic.........

Better yet.... lead them to think they will be financing the car for you then pay cash...

I think you get a better deal when you tell them your paying cash. When I purchased mine (Used) i went in told them how much I had to spend including trade in. I knew what my trade in was worth and what the car was worth so the deal was in my favor big time. They refused the offer only to call me back the next day.

Not only did I get top dollar for my trade in (3k more then other dealer offers but book value) I got the car for 2k less then market value.

When fiancing they think they can play hardball since what is a couple thousand more in a loan.

Just my 2 cents.
