Are there any disadvantages to using a dolly to tow a mini 6speed?

Will it damage the mini?

Thanks,
Jim

Last year I towed my 05 MC w/CVT on a tow dolly behind our RV about 5000 miles and we had no problems at all.

I just fitted the GP to a tow dolly for a trip coast to coast. Due to the low sill height on the GP I removed the ramps from the dolly. Put wood on the front of the removed ramps for loading the MINI.

Towing a MINI is no problem, You just have to watch out for the ramps kicking up and hitting the body when going through large dips.

Personally, I prefer trailering my MINI as opposed to towing it. Keeps it clean and away from road debri.

I prefer trailering over towing no matter what the vehicle. Those tow dollys can just beat a car to death

The dolly does not beat the car to death, the dolly is unsprung, but the MINI is secured by the front wheels. The car is still sprung by the MINI front springs.

The tow dolly is roughly 2000 lbs less weight to tow than that of a trailer. I would prefer to tow on an enclosed diamond plate custom trailer. I don't own one, would not spend the money on one, but that is best.

The tow dolly is cheaper to buy, cheaper to tow, cheaper to fit to a tow vehicle. You pays your money, and you makes your choice.

We tape the front of the MINI with blue or green painters masking tape to keep most of the stone chips away.

So what the concensus is saying is that while not perfect, towing the mini via a dolly will work without causing harm to the car.

I just want to make sure that while not perfect, the GPs suspension and underside will under normal circumstances be ok.

Thanks

We made our coast to coast move using a tow dolly for our 02'. It was FULLY loaded with stuff and we had no issues at all. We rented it from U-Haul.
