I was out for a pleasant--albeit grossly bug filled--drive with my friend today. We stopped at a gas station to clean the goo off my windscreen, as visibility was becoming an issue. When I went to lift the first wiper, there was a GIANT bee. Like a queen bee. But it had been driven, by force of wind, I suppose, through one of the gaping holes along the top of the wipers. It was sliced in half, kinda... but still alive. I was disconcerted by the inhumanity. Then I noticed... several other giant bugs had met similar fates in my wipers!

I've never noticed this on any other car. It was really yucky. And I just thought I'd share.

What a way to go. Done in by a windshield wiper.
Thought for a second from the subject title that there was a VDub Bug kill.
More bugs will take their place, unfortunately.
Cheers,

Had a similar odd killing of a butterfly..... Split in half by the antenna. Body on the antenna, wing on one side, and part of wing on other.....

Brings to mind the old joke. What's the last thing to go through a bug's mind when he hits your windshield......

I guess the cause is the very vertically positioned windshield of the Mini. Bugs crash against the windshield and just stay there. More aerodynamic cars get rid of them. That is really yucky.

Same thing happened with my old beetle (old one from Mexico). Poor Mini...but I hate bugs anyway

lol...Rain X cuts down the amount of bug goop that sticks to the windows...and makes it easier to clean off. also works quite well on the wheels for the brake dust problem. thought I would pass it along

Stoners Invisible Glass works wonders on the bug guys too. Just a couple of wipes and you're done. Good stuff.

Thanks for the Rain X and Stoners suggestions--will definitely try them, as I've no intention of standing around a Sheetz scrubbing at my windows with a funky squeegie-sponge thing ever again.

Um.... when, exactly, are the "Love Bugs" out in La? Cause I hate bugs... and I'm going to Louisiana this summer... and it would be just my luck if you were to tell me that "Love Bugs" are at the height of their population in August...

Also... what ARE "Love Bugs"?

Ick.

"Sometimes you are the windshield. Sometime you are the bug" A timely quote from Mark Knopfler.

Reminds me of the trip west I took when I still had my Beetle.. it got so encrusted with bug guts that some of them became permanant additions to the hood.

very amorous bugs that are thick during mateing season in the deep south. Kind of housefly size..... We don't have them here.
