Mine doesn't...

I just checked my '06 w/xenon headlamps and the daytime lamps do NOT shut off when the handbrake is applied, at least not on startup. No change when I placed it in Drive either. Next time I'm in traffic I'll try that but I've never seen mine go out while the car's running. Interesting...

Why not read my prior posting (two posts up from yours)? Then you will find
your experience less "interesting".

You can have them programmed to stay off all the time by your dealer if you prefer. I don't like DRL's, so I'm glad MINI and BMW give the owner a choice unlike GM and Lexus.
