I cannot recommend repainting Alloy Patina finished dash pieces. Your best bet is to remove the dash pieces you want and replace them with another finish from your parts dept at MINI or buy anthracite finished dash pieces and repaint them.

My dealership tried to repaint Alloy Patina and the professional body shop outside the dealership could not get the paint to stick to the Patina finish even with prep.

I had my wood dash custom airbrushed over anthracite and it worked fine and is durable. I have a clear coat finish so no waxing needed for me, it's durable and very shiny, I just wipe it down now and then.

Oh, yay! So, I'm looking at replacing all 5 dash pieces AND the door panels in order to come up with something acceptable? Thanks, MINI. I'll remember this.

This is the dash I had in my black '03 MCS...

it was originally Alloy Patina, I had it painted black in the body shop at work, then I had my vinyl guy do the white squares for the checkerboard.
It can be done.

Check with PARTSMAN and ask what method the body shop that did his dash painting used to prep the Patina surface. Looks fine to me in the picture.

Maybe the body shop in my area failed to do an adequate prep and the paint didn't adhere well.

Partsman,
Nice checkerboard dash! what's next? Side mirrors or bonnet? Do you have a checkerboard shirt or maybe a shirt with checkerboard collar?

I'm not exactly sure how they prepped the pieces, but they came out looking factory black. BTW, the paint booth at work is also an oven, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Thanks, but I think i'm done with the checkers. The JB/W that I had did have checkered mirror caps that I put on and a custom checkered roof. The more I got into the car, the more I found that the previous owner was not kind to it and I sold it. I didn't want to start getting into the real mods on a car that had been beat on.
