Programming Changes

I am joining the Mini crowd from VW. I own a VagCom that allow me to change various settings in my VWs. Is there something similar for the Mini? Or are we stuck paying the dealer?

Recommended programming changes?

As of right now, there is no way to do it yourself. Uwe Ross was working on a similar program for BMW/MINI but not a lot of progress has been made. Not even sure if he is still pursuing it, there hasn't been much chatter about it for a couple of years now.

Dealer is not supposed to charge for programming per TSB.
Available options change, so not sure what is available now. I like the auto-locks, key off unlock and DRLs on, but that is a matter of personal preference.

Do you know the TSB that states that? Link, maybe? Has anyone tried to puch that at a dealer that charges?

I have my DRL's off.

I have all forms of automatic locking off.

I have all forms of automatic un-locking off.

Everybody likes it different.

I think the dealer is only obligated to do the custom programming one time usually at/around delivery and it is up to them on whether they want to charge for anything after that since they will not be reimbursed for their time. The best bet, in my experience with BMWs/MINIs, additional changes done for free is when the car is on for other things already.

VAG software is awesome
