Since the MINI is FWD, why does it have a transmission hump that extends all the way to the back seats? (or thereabouts. My backseats have been down since day one, with the package shelf in storage position, so I can't be sure it goes ALL THE WAY back to the rear seats.)
My point is, why does it have what seems to be a transmission hump (driveshaft hump I guess is the better term) at all?
Because adding a ridge (like a "driveshaft hump") to a large flat piece of metal (like a car's floorpan) greatly increases the structural rigidity, without adding much weight.
I haven't looked at the underside of our MINIs yet, but I think the exhaust piping is also nestled up there for additional ground clearance.
Yes
Yes
& shifter linkage
Stupid questions are ones like "toilet paper: over or under?" " X-mas lights: all one color or blinky?" "pet dog: curly tail or straight??"

Very funny! I don't think it's a stupid question, CTD. Now we know how to deal with tp, lights, and dog tails!

hardly sounds like a confirmation to me namiwobbie.
Ouch, Namiwobbie? my goodness your upset. It has been confirmed by Skencham that there is a pip under the side. Post #3 only confirms that Poster #2 has not looked but only thinks...

Hi,miniclo. Doesn't matter they still morph into this.
Hi, namwob! Some of them morph into questionable discussions, and those that go too far into the negative get locked and/or deleted. Off Topic: how are the chickens?
Well, Getrag did make an AWD R53. But mostly it allows room for a big 6" diameter resonator up front, plus a 4" one further back in the tunnel. At least that's an advantage for those of us who think even the JCW exhaust is way too loud.
it is the exhaust pipe.
when we bought our lexus, it had a flat floor. they said the exhaust system was new and compact and allowed for a flatter floor.
