I forgot to mention that in Hawaii the demand for the S is stronger than for the base cooper and about half of the coopers are sold with CVT. The total number of coopers out there on the road is greater than for the S.
Sales and demand will vary from area to area which affects wait times for the car. I was interested in an S. I went shopping for the first time to the dealer on Feb.2 for one day drove the Cooper CVT and the S, and saw about 3 cooper S that were in stock. I called back on Feb 9 and was told there were 3 other cooper S models different than the previous week. I slept on my decision overnight and bought an indy blue/white roof with blue/black leather and sports package the next day. I was lucky but you can find something if you shop around. I paid MSRP.
