As someone who owns one of each...

there's something to be said for too much torque with RWD!

Posted before that my wife drives the MCS a lot, no issues there, but the stories reminded me of teaching an early g/f to drive in our Rabbit... well, Dad's Rabbit....

Me: "OK, ease off the clutch and ease onto the gas, just like we discussed"
Her: Mats the gas, sidesteps the clutch
Car: SCREEEEEEEEEEEEE (click of key turning ignition off) CHUG Chug chug ug. Pop.
Me: "Oh.... Kay.... then...."
Her: (nervous laughter) "Ummmm, why don't YOU drive?"
Me: "Oh.... Kay.... then.... How's about we get some ice cream?"
Her: "Oh.... Kay.... then...."
both: (nervous laughter)

She's now a very good friend of my wife and I, we've been married 22 years and STILL laugh about this!

Get a new GF...

it's cheaper than getting a new wife!

This reminded me of a story that's similar, but a bit off topic..

sorry for the diversion....

When I was MUCH younger, I was home from college and a homie friend of mine an I were playing "Bond, James Bond" (for those not in the know, watch bond flicks, and evry time you hear that, chug!). We'll, my buddy was three years older, and could pound, so he'd finished about 4-5 of the six beers, but we still had more Bond flix to go so off to the store to get more beer.

On the way home, I turned left to get onto a street, and got pulled over. I'm still not really sure why. So anyway, the cop asked what was going on, and because of my age, prefered (insisted?) that my buddy (the real buzzed guy) drive home. We weren't stupid, so we said OK. We switched seats, and now is when the driving lesson for a clutch started!

My buddy was so freaked out that he forgot the part "as you pull out the clutch, slowly depress the gas until engagment". What he did was put down the gas (motor goes to red-line) count to three, and pull out the clutch! Needless to say the results were somewhat surprising to him, but he managed to get into second and third without blowing the poor toyota up!

What really surprised me is that the cop didn't pull us over again!

Back to the thread topic!
