Took my Cooper, Chili red white top CVT, 500 miles on speedometer, out Friday after the rush hour here north of Atlanta on the interstate. Played a little game where I would pass a car and then speed up to catch up to the next car way up the road, avoiding overpasses and other likely speed trap sites. Got it up to 90 without feeling I was speeding. When you catch up to the car ahead, slow down a bit to pass and then survey the scene ahead. Then do it again. Smooth.......it seemed to ride smoother the faster you go.

Funny thing, about halfway through the drive I saw an identical Mini heading the opposite direction.

I've been driving big SUV's and trucks for the last 12 years and had forgotten how much fun it is to actually drive and feel the road. But the Mini is something more than that, you seem to get a stupid sort of "high" when you're motoring along. I think its because you see all the other people on the road and you realize you are way more in touch with driving than they are.

I'm glad I got the Cooper instead of the Cooper S or I would probably wind up in the penitentiary. They are very rough on people going over a hundred around here.

This week the kids were out of school for Spring break. In front of a local elementary school is a 1/6 th mile two-lane oval that the buses use to pick up the kids. Along the front straight away are a long series of parking spots that allow you to scream off of turn four and set up for a perfect apex for turns one and two. I zipped around the oval for about ten laps. I never took it out of 2nd but had a blast pushing every lap a little harder. I was starting to get dizzy!! I can imagine going 500 laps on a short track This is my FUN story for today.
