R50/53 ...paying a premium in Northern CA
Is it pretty standard that dealers are tacking on a minimum of 2.5K to the msrp on the S models? The Mountain View dealer said as much which i find kind of hard to believe, and that if i go to the SF dealer, the mark-up is even higher! Plus, ordering now i wont see the car until July. Would it be better to wait for the 2004 models? And any idea when they are coming, or at least what will be new?? Thanks in advance....

Hi, and welcome to MCO. I'm sure you'll get some responses from the west coast Mini owners on here. The added charges are not done by all of the dealers, so I'd research it out a bit firstbefore buying. Have you checked the dealer rating section on here? You may find one listed there selling for MSRP, and saving $2500 will make up for a lot of driving time to go pick one up.
I have been researching prices for myself and I have found that delears in the Atlanta region are selling at MSRP, and the majority along the east coast are doing the same. I have found out though if you call around that you can find a good deal. Also if you are not very picky about options, you might be able to strike a deal with a vehicle that is on the lot. Just remember that you are the consumer and you don't have to purchase at one particular dealer. Saying "No" is better than feeling worse about a purchase later on. On the topic about the 2004 Model. Just go ahead and get the 2003. As with all cars, prices will always increase. They may not increase alot but they will increase. Also, if you do wait for a 2004 Model you might have to order that one also, and wait an additional 8-10 weeks or more for delivery.

>>Try East Bay MINI in Pleasanton. Last summer they were selling at MSRP, but they had a long wait. It might be shorter now.
Nope the wait there is still pretty long. They do charge MSRP but it is still pretty much 1 year from deposit to having your order being placed. On the plus side they dont require an appt for a test drive so I go in whenever I "feel the need".
(I know, its pathetic)
On the other hand, you might be just in time for the new Peugeot engine thats coming out in 2005.

Hi Kevin, this should have been addressed to YSP1 as it was their question. Flow Mini here in NC is also charging MSRP. I've already got mine! If I were going to get on a waiting list of 6 months or longer, I'd specify that I'd want a 2004 model. If you're going to wait, there's no use picking up a new car that's already a year old when you get it.

Hey everybody we can help! At MINI of the Hamptons we have both models in stock and more on the way. We only charge MSRP and have no dealer extras on the cars. We have shipped several MINI's to customers in CA and have seen shipping charges as low as $900. I bet if you called around you could even find a cheaper price. It takes on average 2 weeks to get to CA. Contact us by phone at 888-476-9503 or email me at sales@miniofthehamptons.com so I can tell you what we have available. You can also see our current inventory at http://www.miniofthehamptons.com We have just become an official sponsor of MCO.
I live about a mile from the Allison dealer in Mountain View. However, via phone search I found dealers in the midwest (International Mini in Milwaukee, for one) who sell at MSRP and have no waiting list. I ordered on March 3; vehicle was built to my specs. on March 21, is currently at the VPC in New Jersey, due to be shipped out today. I'm hoping to fly to Milwaukeen for delivery at the end of next week and then drive home via Colorado.
I am in Northern California and dealing with Niello in Sacramento. They are hitting you up for a "Protection Package" at $995 for the Cooper. It includes paint and interior treatment, floor mats and wheel locks - not much for a grand. On the S they add on another $1500, so you are paying $2500 over MSRP. You can see their inventory on-line at:

I am getting a Cooper and am only a few weeks away from having it. I have thought about looking at other dealers but have not yet.

MSRP in No Cal
I recently bought my MCS from Mini of Mountain View.
I live in SF and went to Mini of SF to look at their cars - I gave them my specs, naively thinking that I could possible bargain below MSRP, and that's when the salesperson told me that they add a $2500 dealer markup. First time I ever heard of it. Shocked, I went down to Mountain View and they said they do the same thing but were willing to go down to $1500 markup.
I waited a week, researched places online and by phone, and found that Mini of Pleasanton and Long Beach Mini charge only MSRP. When I called Mountain View about this and said that I am going to get the car from either these dealers, they went down to MSRP - except they said I would have to pay for the floor mats instead of getting it free. I thought I would much rather pay $94.50 and "save" $2500 than the opposite.
Now, they had a car in their lot that matched what I was looking for (so did Long Beach). I don't know if they would be willing to do the same deal if I were ordering the car. They pretty much said - we don't want you to go down there. The salesperson also said that they never do this - could be a line for all I know.
So there are ways to get them at MSRP in No. Cal.
Also I would have gone to Pleasanton - people rave about Pleasanton's service, but they have a really long wait list, and they have a very small number of cars in their current inventory.
Good luck on your search.
