R50/53 MCS vs SRT-4
Huh? Not with the M45...
Don't Forget The Super Cool Caps Button! How Much Did That Run?
you can spank him pretty bad... but you will have to spend some $$... and that money is a comitment...
I raced a stock srt 4 when I was making 190 whp and spanked him pretty bad... he wouldn't even stop and talk to me after the 3rd time.. he must been pretty mad
since they are domestic they are cheap to modify.... we are not so lucky... but I have been against my fair share since all my mods.... and well.... it's no longer a challenge... but I am daily driven at 400 hp

They're also cheap to modify because they're turboed.

IMO it really doesn't matter if his car is faster, he drives a NEON for crying outloud. So far beneath you...
the srt may always be faster but thankfully there is so much more to driving enjoyment than straight line speed. On top of that imagine the kick in the groin the srt owner will get at trade-in time!
Just wait until his POS neon breaks down on the side and you will catch up with him. All kidding aside though, there is no way you can compete with him w/o some big bux. While still a neon, Dodge really put out a winner when they crammed it with some go fast parts for cheap.
Wow... I'm somewhat amazed at all the hate for Neons. Sure it is a daily driver we see all over the road (and sometimes on the side of the roads), but the car has a racing heritage. From the Neon's inception, Dodge had an option package that was a base model car with stiffer suspension which was initially only available for purchase if you possessed an SCCA racing license. Later years allowed the package available for all interested.
The Neon ACR went to dominate the Showroom Stock C class for a few years in a way the MINI has done so. This was not a car designed for straight line stop light races: the 2.0 DOHC engine only put out 150hp and 132 ft/lbs of torque, but it was an agile car very similar to the MINI.
Here are the performance options that were included in the ACR package:

Here are the performance options that were included in the ACR package:
- Specially tuned struts with Koni adjustable shocks. Struts improve track performance and ride quality. Shocks are adjustable for rebound damping front and rear and can be adjusted either softer or stiffer than regular shocks.
- Adjustable front camber, slotted to allow as much as 2.4 degrees negative camber. Reduces oversteer.
- The big A/C radiator without the big A/C condenser. Reduces weight
- Four-wheel disc brakes without ABS and luxury trim. Reduces weight and complexity
- No speed limiter. Increases top end beyond 118mph
- Rear anti-roll bar. Balances handling
- Bigger front anti-roll bar (22mm vs 20mm). Reduces body roll
- Quick steering ratio (16:1 vs. 18:1). Sharpens response
- Shorter final drive (3.91 vs 3.55). Improves acceleration
- Stronger front hub. Increases durability under racing conditions with stronger hub flange.
- Base trim level (base interior with no sunroof, radio, or body side molding options). Reduces weight
- ACR Coupes come with 185/60-HR14 Goodyear RS-A radials instead of the 175/70 Conquest GAs that come on vanilla coupes. (SCCA allows ACR Coupes to race on 205/55-14 tires.) ACR sedans come with 175/65-14 Goodyear Eagle NCT II, a European market tire. (SCCA allows 195/60-14s.) The ACR cars also get unique 14x6" alloys.

Good points Fullpint. I certainly am not in love with Neons at all, but it is nice that Dodge has offered quite an interesting and affordable factory package.
The best description of the SRT-4 I ever heard described it as a "wolf in Wal-Mart clothing"
In the end, I bought my MINI for its handling performance, not for its straight line performance. My modified turbo GTI was amazing in a straight line, but it left a LOT to be desired when cornering (even with a very expensive racing suspension).
My mildly modified MCS is a fantastically well balanced car for the twisty mountain roads I love so much.

There's no doubt that for straight speed the SRT-4 is very respectable, but IMO there are so many other important factors that the Neon does not possess. I think the biggest knock against the Neon though is that it's typical owners consist of adrenaline pumped teenage boys that just want to race you at every stoplight.
The next generation SRT-4 is in Caliber clothes and it boasts even better numbers and specs then previous SRT-4.
Dodge really knows what they are doing when they put the SRT badge on something. The Cherokee SRT-8 smacks the Porsche Cayenne around and the Porsche is something like 40k more...give or take. The SRT-10 Ram is the fastest production truck in the world according to Guinness (sp?).
These are premium speed demons for very little hard earned cash.

FYI - since justintime resurrected a very old thread on the exact same topic with his post (now #69)... I went ahead and merged the two.
Except for that post, the old thread stops at #33 and the newer one started at #34.

I was looking at the SRT-4s before I got bumble. If I hadnt found Bumble for as cheap as I did, I may have been driving an SRT-4 now. But I am glad I got the car that I did. Even though it is a neon, it is still fast.
And I am pretty sure the SRT-4 Calibra(I know it is speeled wrong, that is what I call them) was pushed back, cause I am pretty sure it used to say coming in '07, but my memory is not always the best.
