As I was walking out of work today, a woman, I was walking near asked how I liked my MINI. The short answer was awesome – I love it. She said her brother had a 3 series BMW and is happy with it, but has had lots of problems.

Only minuets later while driving home, a very pretty lady pulled next to me at a stop light in an M5 BMW. Looking at me smiling, asked what is that and who makes it? Saying a MINI Cooper and trying a theory, I said BMW. Her look and answer was “no way”, BMW only makes classy cars.

Trying to impress me as the light turned green she spun her wheels and took off, only traffic stopped abruptly in her lane and she hit the car in front of her because she was looking at my MCS.

a MINI is a MINI.

...and often a head-turner. Be careful with that MINI... any more head-turning episodes like that and somebody is going to get hurt!

in my eyes:

a jaguar will never be a ford in the way that a lincoln is.
subsequently a mini will never be a bmw.

Unbelieveable...are you sure you're not pulling our collective legs?

Well, the M5 is a very nice car, and I'd much rather have one than my MCS if only I could get one for $22,000. But since I can't, I'd say the MINI represents some pretty good motoring for the buck. Too bad that M5 driver was such a jerk.

As a counterpoint, the new model line (S-Type and X-Type) has eerie similarities to FoMoCo models, including trim style and the location of the fuel filler door. This kind of similarity actually steered me away from the X-Type. At the time, I was A4/WRX/TT/X-Type comparing.

I would feel better about calling my MINI a BMW (interior trim, mechanics, brakes, suspension) than calling my Jaguar a Ford.

Sucks for her. I have had lots of questions like that, and I do say that it is a BMW. I have never had that sort of answer, I guess people just don't seem to car around here.

---> Stupid lady! Too bad for that //M5, and the innocent person she rammed into!

why is it that people don't understand that MINI is the maker?
whenever i tell anyone that, they say "who really makes it?"...
that's when i have to say BMW! so i dropped the whole it's made by MINI, and just say BMW.
it sucks that people just don't get it!
as for the lady with the M5!
i guess if you can afford a M5, you can afford to have it fixed!

All too often I'm finding I don't have the patience to try and explain that MINI is the manufacturer blah blah blah.... so I've resigned myself to just saying (politely, of course :smile BMW so they will shut up! If they are truely interested in the car, a little research will set them right.

And let us all bow our collective heads and thank God that MINI is not owned by Ford!!!

The interior of the new jaguars looks just like the interior of a taurus.

I had a S-type and a new taurus in side by side once at my shop and the dash/ac/radio controls are almost identica.

The woman who ran into the back of the car in her "Classy" BMW has that car as a status symbol, and it is painfully clear that she is NOT the Ultimate Driver, nor is she likely to have a clue about the mechanical merits of any car.

Just remember..."Be thankful for fools because they make the rest of us look good."

Mini Cooper S - Msrp $19,850

New Sunglasses - $25

Fuzzy Dice Hanging From Rear View Mirror - $15

The feeling that you get when karma steps in & rubs one right in the face of a snotty woman and her "Classy" M5 made by the same company as your "Not-So-Classy" Mini By throwing her a minor head on collision : PRICELESS!

Man! Sucks to be her! Although i admit she had what was coming to her! I agree with motormad about this woman buying the car for the status symbol and not having a clue about mechanical merits!!!

I never saw the mini as being Less classy than any of BMW's other cars... I just saw it as being the more unique classy car.... But hell, even if it is less classy... I still love it for it's uniquity factor! Who gives a rats bum bum about who thinks their car is classier!

Cheers!
Dave

Owning a BMW and a MCS, I can proudly say , I truly love both. Although I try to tell people the MCS is a MINI, I often have to back down and say its made by BMW, then the mostly say "OHHH". I have no problem calling my MINI and BMW because the truth is the MINI reeks BMW. The similarities of my BMW and MINI are many, same on board computer, AC, orange display, stereo, and the list goes on and on.

Jaguars have unfortunately been ruined by Ford. Once the platform sharing began, that was the end. At least the XK and XJ series still have their own (the XJ being all new), but they've eliminated nearly all the chrome on the cars... chrome was what made a Jag a Jag! We've owned a number of them over the years, currently have 3... the one we have the most trouble with is the '95, which was right when Ford started putting their stuff into the cars.

The funny part is when someone asking says, "MINI what?", like there's more to it...

I try to be patient and explain that MINI is the name of the company that makes the car. Some just shrug their shoulders and say, "it sure is cool, whatever it is."

LOL

In this month's "Automobile" mag, there's a great article about their 'loaner' 1991 M3...

my dream car too. But I wouldn't trade my MC for anything else on the road!

...I meant to say 2001 M3 !

when people ask me about my MINI, I say "made in Oxford, UK" ...company owned by BMW, but proudly British-built.

>>I love my MINI, but my dream car is an M3. I will have one someday. In silver to match my Cooper.

Strangely, my MCS *is* my dream car. Sure, it's not a 911 Turbo or an M5, but it fits my needs more roundly than any of the others.

Ok, you got me; it's really the A/C glovebox that did it.
