R50/53 My high school not a MINI friendly school :(
Mabey not the best "Intellegent" move, but if someone broke out my car window, and I knew who it was, I wouldnt care how big he is, he is that much of a jacka$$, my cockiness kicks in, and I have to do something.
I know what smiley's are for, I've been on message boards for the better part of my life... it wasn't a big deal i just thought it could still hurt someones feelings, that's all.
In regards to the main point of this post... I know how you feel flannel. In my senior year of HS, I transferred to one that was further away. I drove my 1965 Vespa Scooter to school and had gum put on my seat, etc. It sucks that people will mess with what's different. I talked to the teachers there and they let me park it back by the teacher's lounge. This was a small school though, so it wasn't a big deal to do that. I think it's a good idea to park it somewhere else.
Also, it may be a good idea to 'coolify' it a little bit as was mentioned before... I'm not sure how much money you have, but a couple cool stickers, some tinted windows, etc. can make the MINI a little bit 'cooler' to those who can't appreciate it for what it already is.
I don't think you should have to prove yourself to anyone, but a few modifications might make the MINI seem cooler to the people at your school, and who knows maybe then they will want one too!

Yes, yes! Let the lord smite those who might conspire against thine MINI!
" And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my MINI. And you will know I am the OWNER when I lay my vengeance upon you."
Here's an idea (Chows was pretty close):
Keep the MINI. You like it. Keep it. Illigetimus non Carborundum. (Don't let the bastards wear you down.)
Buy a beater. Get some $800 POS to drive to school.
As fo the guy who drove the Silver Spur to school and some walking pile of feces bashed its door with football.... That punk better be glad I'm not your daddy and that's not MY Silver Spur. I'd hire a good lawyer and when he got through with him, he'd have a HARD running fit the next time he laid eyes on a Rolls-Royce. If you've got enough resources, the law can be your friend...
This is just so wrong on so many levels. Why on earth do so many decent young people get victimized for doing nothing wrong? No adverse consequences for these thugs is just egging them on.

only thing that doesnt work about the 800 dollar beater idea is you have to insure it also, i mean since youd get the cheapest insurance it may not be to bad (i mean its a cheap car no need for all the works), but just the fact hes a high schooler will still make even an $800 cars insurance costly
Work hard, and then you dont need to rent a beautiful car to match your prom date, you already have one!!!!!

Cause when you own a MINI, the girls wont stop. And thats great, because a girlfriend in high school is the last thing on your mind."eenie-meenie-myknee-moe" I want that one.
Was it a minor child? I never said that. I said some kid. Could have been 20 for all I know. That's still a kid to me.
Yeah people like that tick me off. I think Gromit was totally correct in what he did. Now if the little gangsta opened the door and displayed a 50 cal Desert Eagle I would have gotten back in the car.
But he didn't, it would have been great if a cop saw his little illegal getaway and pulled him over. "I was running away from a big mean man officer"

I'm just going to end the arguments here... I'm going to sell the explorer and lower my stature in the winter with this beater Geo Metro.

eh, girls liked my jeep too. I took my ex to prom last year in my mini. Ive been working in a shop restoring old european cars, im thinking this year ill be taking a restored jag
Just kidding. No girls are cool. Alot of my good friends are girls cuz u can tell them stuff and they listen and it's not awkward at least for me anyway. Then you end up with two of them as good friends and they are best friends themselves and you want to go out with both but yeah... okay nvm... that's my situation hahahaI'm seriously thinking of asking my dad's friend if I can borrow his LP640 for Prom this year. Last year it was the same guys Ford GT. It was fun. Unfortunetely I'll only have it for a weekend.

MINI=Not fun Prom vehicle... take it from me, u can look at all the diagrams you want that are posted here but there is no way in hell of... beeyah... in a MINI.

haha and I went this route too btw. I bought an 87 crx at the beginning of last year. most fun car Ive ever onwed. replaced nearly all of it and now its the meanest/ugliest fast thing around
Uhhhh not quite but yeah the car does have something to do with it.
And yeah don't ever EVER get a girlfriend they are nothing but trouble and then you have to pay child support.

and theres nothing wrong with a girlfriend but theres little point in HS. But having that outlook on things is prolly why girls are always frustrated with me:impatient
I went to school in the texas hill country and I can see where your coming from. Everyone and there Grandma had a massive truck. Dont get me wrong I love to go out In an '86 bronco witha 12" body lift and 38" swampers along with a nice 454 to push it.
But I dont think that anybody that goes to high school should have a car like a brand new F-350 or even a mini. About half the people you go to school with are just learning to drive, so of course some new retarded driver with a bigger vehicle (which is the majority compared to the mini) is either not going to think about his exits or just accidelty hits you and freaks out and doesnt tell anybody.
Ah high school...so many stupid clueless people.
Buy a beater and drive it to school. A high school is no place for a car like a Mini!

As a parent that has just been through this crap recently......
Just to preface, I grew up in the UK, my school transport consisted of a 10spd Raleigh bicycle, which gave way to a Yamaha FS1E (dx), than in my last year of school gave way to a Yamaha RD250 LC.
College transport was a Honda 250N Superdream and a Mini 1000.
When we moved out to California my son attended the local HS and as soon as he could learn to drive he was insured on my (1988) BMW 325iS. Given that HS was under a mile away, I utterly refused to loan him my car and put myself out (ie carpool or ride my motorcycle to the office) just in order that he could drive a whole mile, despite a rather large amount of begging from him !
The level of arguement over the futility of driving a single mile was beyond my own comprehension. Just because I did not, and still do not undertsand the status of driving to school. One Friday I finally relented and decdied to ride my motorcycle to the office, giving my son the keys to my BMW. That afternoon I got home early and found the BMW sitting outside, curiously it seems that he had done a deal with his mother to drive her Grand Cherokee to school, while she had driven my BMW to work (25 miles), because 'Everyone would laugh if he turned up in an old POS BMW'.
My reaction was fairly over-the-top.
I reminded him that he was bloody lucky to be able to drive at 15 - in the UK you have to wait until you are 17, not only that, but the 325iS was a classic and he was grounded and his grades where not good enough to justify me ever loaning him my car and I was going to take him off the insurance and........
What he said was true though, the student lot was full of Mercedes, BMW's (new ones including M3's), Jeeps, high dollar SUV's and assorted Corvettes etc. One senior drove a 911 Turbo....
A couple of years later I gave him the 325iS as we moved a few miles away from the HS, he drove it everyday. Just because it was 'different' or not new enough, he was ridiculed, despite being a football 'star' and a scholar athlete (Track and field / football and soccer)......

My dad wasn't very happy with me when he saw what happened to the car. It's not the damage that's bad, it's the fact that you have to drive it to chicago (like 2 hours away) just to get an estimate. If they can do something soon, they'll give u a kickass Porsche as a loaner, but believe me you end up paying for it in the end.
It's fixed and I am placing the invoice in the kids mailbox along with a letter... Addressed to his parents.
So it looks like it will be taken care of. As a parent that has just been through this crap recently......

Yeah early 90s bimmers are the *****.
I am teased about the MINI but my friends are the only ones that do it, and I know they don't mean anything, and are just doing it to get a funny, smarta$$ remark back from me.We have two M3s in the lot currently, I know that because they are both owned by friends of mine. Everytime you walk by the front row u are just tempted to push all the bikes over, theres about 15 or so normally, mainly gixxers, R1s, and three busas, two of those busas are turbos. I can't even begin to name off all of the cars, but it seems there are duplicates of everything out there, so it's big to personalize ur car, whatever it is, just to stand out. The new 3 series people are having problems with that. There's about 25 of them all together, 15 of them are a shade of white or silver so it's real hard to tell them apart.
It's funny though because girls own most of those, and you see alot of blondes trying and getting frustrated when their little white 3 series won't unlock, then they realize they REALLY parked about 200 feet in the opposite direction.

Hey flannelhippie, sorry about your trouble, but the truth of the matter is that we as mini owners seem to be recongized by the rememberance of our vehicles, when we stopped to see you at your work place, when we asked for you, they seemed to stop and pause for a moment, but as soon as we mentioned the red mini, they know exactly who you are.
Don't let them get to you, if you like your car stay with it.
