It is over

You may have read my post about my wreck fiasco. To bring you up to speed...

Wreck 4-27-06

Should have been totaled per body shop, was not per Allstate.

Aug 30th through September 5th misled to believe the car was a total loss per Allstate.


Order a clone of my MINI

20 minutes later Allstate calls and reverses decision.

October 11, call from Allstate stating the car will be totaled...again.

October 12, power of attorney filled out.

October 13, payment to BMW financial for payoff.

October 18, MINI ordered on September 5th scheduled to arrive at dealership.

It is over!

I thought you were saying it's over with having a Mini. Glad I was wrong. Glad "it's over" for ya also. Insurance companies can really be a-holes

Believe me when I say I feel your pain and frustration. But when you smell your new MINI's interior, you'll be refreshed and start to forget some of that nonsense w/ the Ins co.

Before everyone piles on the insurance companies, keep a couple things in mind.

1. Insurance is one of those things people talk about only when it goes bad. When's the last time someone came up to you and said, "wow, my claim was processed smoothly and professionally" ? I'd like to think the vast majority of claims are handled well and the customer walks away happy.

2. The Insurance Industry has to operate within the rules and guidelines established by the State in which they operate. Some of those rules are restrictive in nature and out of the control of the insurer.

Okay, back to your bashing of the insurance companies.

Glad your experience had a happy ending. I went through the same kind of trauma, except it was with State Farm. They came out to the shop where my '02 had originally been towed. I got a phone call while in my rental car indicating that it wouldn't be totalled and my blood pressure went through the roof because I had already ordered a new '06. I felt panicky.....lucky I didn't have another accident. I immediately had it moved to another body shop where it was taken apart and based on collateral damage they assured me it would be totalled. When State Farm came out again......it was. I really, really didn't want a car with $10k worth of repairs. The waiting time in between appraisals was hellish, but the upside is that the replacement check was equal to what I had paid for it 3.5 years earlier.

Hey, in the end they covered it. so that's a Very Good Thing (tm) in my book. Congrats on totalling your car!!

I'm sure all agents are different and all companies have pro's and con's...However, I have been so very happy with State Farm. They are very competitive in pricing and the few times I've had claims it has gone without a single glitch! Just an for what it's worth!

In my case the car was automatically towed by the township to a particular body shop. I discovered that they had recently been dropped as an approved shop by State Farm. They had an ax to grind with the insurance company and I believe they also wanted to profit from doing the repairs. If I had known this at the time I would have had the car moved out of there immediately. Yes, you've got to be very careful about who you decide to trust.

Let me get this straight...You ordered a NEW MINI before your old one was officially declared dead?!? I'd look over my shoulder when walking through dark parking lots. Don't you remember what happend in "The Love Bug" when whats-his-name bought a new jag and Herbie found out!
Seriously, I hate dealing with insurance companies...friendly taking your money, sons of biotches when returning it.

not all are that way. I've had the same one for almost twenty years and enjoy low rates, quick claim settlements and no hassles.

I was going for the whole "dating again already while the body is still warm" imagery thing with that one...I hope you didn't take me seriously

You did the right thing. Even after minor accidents (involving more than just a body panel) cars are just never the same again. Glad you are getting a new one.
