R50/53 Second Thoughts???
Does anyone have any second thoughts about the MINI. I know that I am having some right now. I just feel like I should have looked at the rest of the field more closely. I think I should have gone with the Toyota MR-2 Spyder...damn. Nothing I can do now. Looks like I am going to have to wait a few years. Does anyone else have feelings like this?

no ... this is the right car at the right time ...
... if this car didn't come on the market when it did, i would have just dumped a few more bucks into my classic Mini , and driven it for a second 300,000 miles ...

I dunno, the MR-2 just seems so much sexier, and with a turbo and the right suspension on it, it matches up with a Ferrari. Oh the thoughts that are going through my head...
Unless your tongue is firmly planted in cheek, how could someone with almost 800 postings on this message board say such a silly thing. A MR2 come on you gotta be kidding.

Hey xchopper, you've got to be kidding, right? Do you REALLY think the current MR2 is anything close to a Porsche Boxster?? If you do, then you're in your own fantasy land. The MR2 is closer to an 18 year old Pontiac Fiero than to the Boxster. The Mazda Miata puts the MR2 to shame in both performance and definitely in style. Toyota has gotten way off track with the MR2. I'd take a used version of the last generation MR2 before I would even consider a new one. When you look at the specs, it appears to be a Tercel less a couple of seats and the top. Kinda like the defunct Honda del Sol. Great commmuter car but not much in the sporting category. Based on that, it's worth about $18K, not $25K, based on the market competition. Who would even consider paying $25K for the MR2 when you can get a Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder for the same money with almost twice the power, more room, and a long list of aftermarket products available to both boost performance and individuality in styling configurations.

My freind has a n mt2 his fall aprat all teh time. mayeb hes got a lemon btu I really don't think it can take teh kind of stress that a sports car should... I can see you wanted to haev a performace car... teh mini is quick, zippy, sometiems fast.. but it will never be a sports car until you rice burnthe hell out of it. adn even then your nto lookign at ferrair status.. that why bmw sells z4's the mini is the most bang for your buck i htink .. I test drove a lto of otehr cars, adn there so form adn function,, they lack the fun, innnovative, adn stylish features teh mini has.. Style and smile is a bgi part of havign this car. I don't think anyoen woudl buy it for a sports car. I think woud ultimely love your descision.the mini, has such a balance that you will nto be regeretting your purchace when say oen day you hav to pick up more than one friend, or go to a tail gate party.. oreven splash a little mud. jus tsoem of the things an mr won't be good for.. if you wanta fast car, ( which btw thre are speed limits still)
then by all means go get yoruself a sports car. but if your lookgin for the best of all worlds, with too much comprose in anyo o fthem. then I think the mini was right for you.

Don't get me wrong...I LOVE this car...the MCS is awesome. I just think that I SHOULD have given more thought to other cars. What would it be like if I got another car? Do yo guys see where I am comming from?
I can't stand the MR-2....that thing is hideous. So is the Matrix. There are so many of those dang things around where I live and I am sick of looking at them. And the new Civic Si was disappointing...the old ones were so much better.
This is all just my 2¢ though. To each their own.
I have never had any regrets. I love my MINI, but I am also very fond of the new Z (aside from the door handles), the G35 coupe or of course an Aztek or a Honda Element.
(And for those of you that don't know me that well yet....I am totally kidding about the last 2).
Oh and I am moving this to MINI Talk because it is directly MINI related.

The worst thing about that new Civic Si hatch (besides the fact that the hatch is ONLY offered as an Si) is that it looks like Honda chopped a lot of volume of of the back of the car for the sake of style. A great thing about those cars has always been the storage volume with the seats down. Now, I'm not so sure.
For me, there WAS no other car. I was assuming that I would buy a used Civic hatch until the MINI arrived (I had a couple of years to make my decision!), but once I saw the MINI there just wasn't even a debate.

Well the thoughts that toy with my mind is that there are a lot of nice looking body kits out for it, it is a convertible, and can be turbo'd...
LOL!!! You are too much L.Mini! I have the MCS. In one of the magazines I was reading this guy said that his MR-2 was better than his Ferrari, was he right, I dunno. There is just something about a car like this with 300hp that makes me think...Veilside MR-2

Nah I wouldn't do it....I don't care that much about speed. I am more of a handling/appearance kinda gal......
LOL...I feel like I am on drugs...maybe cause I have been thinking about ideas for Randy's logo, or maybe it is beacuse I haven't been getting any sleep due to this KICK-*** site! Maybe the MINI is for me. I think I might have to go for some test drives this summer though...just for ***** and giggles. Thanks for hearing em out guys!

For me there was an interesting effect that settled in sometime after the break-in period...but it was not "second thoughts." See, after the adrenaline rush of ordering my MC!...checking in with MCO constantly!...getting a production #!...visits to the OL!...tracking my ship across the ocean!...checking in more on MCO!...taking delivery!...the blast of new motoring euphoria!...buying an accessory/mod or two!......finally...finally the rush just has to lessen a bit. It's your car...its the way you like it...whew!!!! Take a breath...enjoy the car. The feeling isn't as intense, but that's not having second thoughts. Its just that the reality of daily motoring has sunk in. Sometimes, when I'm driving I actually forget I'm in a MINI...and why are those people looking at me??? (...oh yeah, it's the car.) The MINI is just a great car. It reminds me of that whenever I push its performance just a bit, or admire its lines in the evening light. (sigh...) Oh well...back to work.

With the way aftermarket parts are coming out for the MINI, I'm sure that pretty soon it can be riced up with as much heavy plastic as the Japanese cars can be.
Toyota makes good cars, I've owned more of them than any other make, but how often to MR2 drivers get the contant smiles and thumbs-up from random people on the road?
