Suggestions on Automatic Settings New Mini

After reading a lot of things, I have found that there are some settings should be changed in regards to auto mini things like locks and windows.

Here is what I have told them so far:
No daytime running lights
No auto-lock feature on doors.

I havent come up with anything else yet that is cool or that I should be tweaking. Any suggestions?

Those are owner programable options that your Motoring Assistant should have gone over with you before delivery. And they aren't just for convertables either. Tin tops have some of them as well.

I didnt get it yet

Remember though, I live on Long Island. If people here hear options they get their lawyers, sue the dealer and mini and the Congress, and then refuse to buy the car. That didnt make any sense I know, but if you live here, it does. people around here want it all deluxed. If you mention options to them for settings they yell, "Ya think fuh twenty five thousand dolluz the thing would come all fixed! What's with these questions, oh my Gawd! "

hence, no mention of these things so far. Dealer said only upon specific request do they deal with this sort of thing. It's the land of keep it simple and spend your money without question.

Still looking for suggestions!

You're on the right track with what you specified so far. In the listing, there's an optional setting to make the automatic headlights less sensitive. I asked for it on mine, but on the actual programming console that option wasn't there. (I was standing there as it was done. I actually did some of the programming myself on mine) Automatic locks annoy me and they cause unnecessary wear on the locks and power actuators. I live in the rural South, so I don't have as much need to keep my doors locked at all times. Daytime running lights used to be a minor annoyance to me, but since I started Motoring in a MINI I positively despise them. Seems like they are all aimed directly in my rearview mirrors!

I like the ability to "Convenience Open" my sunroof and windows via the remote. That is enabled by default, but make sure to let your preferences be known.

Thats the exact opposite.

DRLs are important for others to see you (Not for you to see them).

The car locking at about 6 MPH is, I believe, a European thing and a good safety feature. Why wouldnt you want it to automoatically lock?

I was excited when I was notified to call the dealer about the memory settings...it meant my MINI is coming soon. WOOT!!

I think I turned everything on except for the daytime running lights.

I was told I can always have them reset the next time I come in for a scheduled maintenance.

Yeah DTRL helps me not get hit. Eh. im all about looks.

I never want the car to lock itself ever. I have the ability to drive, to steer, to type on a 101 keyboard, a single button that helps me not die is something that I can remember. Plus, if I want to throw someone out the door at 60 mph, I can!

That actually isnt the reason I would want no auto locks I dont want it lock with the timer when it is parked. I hear it winds up locking itself after a while under certain conditions. I have found that universally annoying on all cars I have used. A car shouldnt auto lock or auto arm the noise alarm ever. One should be under control enough to know when to lock and when to arm alarms. I have set off my sisters alarm about 50 times trying to get out my niece from her car seat. all such settings are really annoying.

I dont think my car has automatic lights. I got the inconvient Po Folks Plus package. It includes a squeegee and a bucket along with a siphon to get other people's gas.

I think you guys are making me re-consider changing to the "no" auto lock feature.

I like the auto-lock feature. One less thing to do.

With my initial service I made the following changes:

Turned on - day time running lights. Which is brights on 50%. I did this because I've had a lot of people make left turns in front of me lately, as if they didn't see me. Like a motorcycle, MINI's are small and need all the visibility they can get.

Turned off - convenience opening. I never used it anyway and had them open on occasion when I was working on the car and had the key in my pocket.

Turned on -unlock doors automatically when the ignition is turned off. Heck I'm getting out anyway, why not?

Dont be.

The standard setting is for the car to lock automatically once you hit about 6 MPH. Its a safety feature ... has NOTHING to do with alarms ... your driving the car.

How can you consider that when y'all have one of the cheapest gas rates in the US?

lol nice a georgia credit card

Hm. The auto-unlock when ignition is off isnt great idea either. Is that default on or off?

I really do not like anything auto. I wish that there was an override for driving lamps to be only on without fog lamps. Sometimes you want to bling in front of your friends with all shiney things activated

or blind them and watch them DIE!

First item, most likely off. Again safety

Second item, I think you wrong. If your have factorr driving lights and factory fogs the driving lamps ARE only on without the fog lights.

Fogs go with low beams. Driving lights with high beams. ITs the only way any dealer will wire them ... state laws.

Auto locking and options

Not that I live there...but autolocking sounds like a decent idea for those in the LA Area...makes it tougher to be car jacked

I have left all the options as they were defaulted to in my 04. Thought about shutting off the daytime lights but since the Mini is so small and it only uses 1/2 power of the High beams (cheap) figured to leave them on)

On a serious note...I overheard a discussion between a customer and her SA concerning optioning. Apparently certain options are tied to other options. One he mentioned concerned that if you had Daytime Driving lights enabeled, then you had to have the doors autolock? Have no idea if this is accurate but somewhere on this board a list of the options was posted (a checklist of sorts) Must admit, the search function brings up a ton of stuff but somewhere here on NAM, that list is there!
Good Luck
jeff

nice!

I used to live in SW VA along the applachian trail (not where yuppy backpackers traveled either, more like people without electricity in their homes)

I remember that sort of poor!

Premium options are like when you get a pickled egg and it was pickled in hot sausage sauce a second time. Then it was pink. THAT was premium.

Maybe an understanding of the auto-unlock feature is needed:

In my 05 I have it set to unlock when I turn the key (in the ignition) to off. Meaning all the way to position 1. So I can cut the engine and still sit with the radio on and the doors locked.

Now I was driving a 06 MCC the other day which had the auto unlock feature which didn't unlock the doors till the key was removed from the ignition. A tad better to me if you like to sit and chill.

Both are nice ways or letting you decide when the doors unlock. To me the auto unlock feature is really a big help to me and my passengers. Otherwise if you don't unlock the door yourself the passenger will have to tug on the door handle twice. Usually even if they know its twice it doesn't become habit and people aren't used to it.

I like the auto lock feature. I enabled it on my 330i and I do live in LA. Sometimes I have to drive thru less desirable neighborhoods and I feel somewhat safer knowing that my car is always locked. Plus, my mother always told me to lock my doors!

I am torn on the auto unlock feature. But if I can have it unlock when I remove the key that would be ok. I had originally decided to turn off the daytime running lamps since I will have the auto headlights. I like having the headlights turn on at the appropriate time. Can we say spoiled? why yes I am!!

There is definitely a computer programming sheet on this forum because I downloaded it. It's very informative.

its more than just auto-lock and unlock when are you starting the car or exiting the car, its the locking it can do on the timer setting. I have to find that list of auto features i remember it on this site somewhere.

Well, that's the case if you use the boot release button on the remote, but not if you use the regular unlock button. The doors will re-lock, however, if you don't open *anything* within two minutes. - Blalor"

My dads MINI ran out of gas on the freeway so he called a Towtruck to tow his car to the closest gas station. to put the car in neutral he had to put the key in the ignition and when he got to the gas station, the car autolocked his keys in the car, haha he was laughing when he told me his series of things going wrong
