wow. thats terribly annoying ! at least you have fun with it!

Yes, no auto lock for me. in odd circumstances you want the car to never lock or unlock or roll up windows or anything except what you want it to do. apparently, that is exactly when it locks your keys in.

or a child in the backseat. supposedly not possible, but trust me, it could happen. Scenario: It's cold outside when I am taking care of my baby niece. (1 2/3's year old now!) I turn the car on with heat blasting, I pack the car once she is locked in to her car seat... otherwise you cant pack the car as she will be roaming around the street........... While I am packing..... Door closes by mistake, oh well.. LOCK!

that would suck as i would immediately put my foot through the window. :(

This is my fear of autolocking.

"I got the inconvient Po Folks Plus package. It includes a squeegee and a bucket along with a siphon to get other people's gas."

Yeah, I got that , too. But, I still LOVE my car.

I am against automatic safety features because I feel they insult one's intelligence. Maybe that's because I ride motorcycles and have always been able to think for myself.

I don't like DRL on cars because they defeated the whole purpose of their creation - to make motorcycles more visible in traffic. When they came into being for cars, bikes became just as relatively invisible as they were before DRLs for bikes (but not quite). Quite frankly, anyone that can't see a car coming at them during the day without their headlights on shouldn't be driving, anyway.

My car came with the DRLs off, and the auto door locks on. The unlock feature is disabled, and I'm going to have the auto lock disabled, as well. I can lock my own doors when I go into a 'dangerous' neighborhood. Also, if I get into some horrific crash where the electrics are completely disabled, I don't want them to say that he died becausse we couldn't open the door fast enough to get him out! =oD I also want to activate the auto-open windows & sunroof with the toggle switch.

My MA, who used to work at Hassel, then went to Mercedes-Benz, and now is back at Habberstad, didnt inform me of any other options, so now that she back at a local MINI dealer, I'm gonna give her a call.

I would beg to differ. There have been times, especially near twilight or in the shade, its hard to discern a dark grey car.

DRLs are mandated in Canada.

As to motorcyles, I dont see studies bearing that out

"The effect of DRLs on motorcycle crashes has been studied i ..., where daytime lights were required for motorcyclists prior to the DRL law for passenger vehicles. In the study in Norway, a 4-percent increase, not statistically significant, was found for motorcyclist crashes. In Hansen's evaluation of Denmark's law, daytime multiple-vehicle crashes involving motorcycles were unchanged, but nighttime and single-vehicle daytime motorcycle crashes decreased over this period, leading Hansen to conclude that there might be a "minor negative impact" of DRLs on motorcycle crashes."

Sounds insignifcant to me. See http://www.ibiblio.org/rdu/DRLs/studies.htm

Today they are an option, just like seatbelts used to be. I figure by 2009 they will be a mandated safety item on all US cars. They save lives.

It wouldn't lock unless your Neice somehow piloted your MINI up to 6-10 mph. I like my auto locks, only down side I've come across is uninformed people trying to rip my door handle off trying to get out.

As for the DRL, I hear that it's illegal to drive on military bases with them, living in San Diego (military base capital of the world it seems) half the time, I opted to pass on them. I don't usualy drive on bases but you never know.

You probably heard the opposite, that is, its illegal to NOT have them on. Just guessing.

It is illegal, immoral and a sin to not look good.

Billy Crystal captured my heart when I was a kid:

"I don't feel mahvelous, but I look mahvelous, which is okey dokey with me 'cause you know my credo, it is better to look good than to feel good, you know what I am saying?"

Insulting the intelligence of the average distracted and often road-rage filled driver is not possible. I'm for automatic turn-signals, cause using them seems to be a thing of the past, (except maybe as an indication of the intent to change lanes no matter what). I guess using turn signals before turning isn't "cool" anymore?

One additional point on the DRLs... Aside from the safety factor, I think they look very cool when they're on, at least with the 02-04 style xenon headlights.

Follow-me-home lights. If you live in the northern half of the US or Canada, the nights get long in the winter. The default for the lights to stay on is 60 seconds. In most cases, if you turn them on, get out of your car, go the boot and pick up a few things, close the hatch and then run to your door, it takes more than 60 seconds. Especially if you have to fish around for your house keys.

So I asked my dealer to reprogram it for 90 seconds and he tells me the lastest software they have in their programming machine does not have the module for changing the Follow-me-home lights. So I would suggest you get yours programmed to 90 seconds before you pick up your car.

Hm. They themselves do it so I dont think that could be changed then. I like those on for a bit myself, thats a cool thing that the mini's can do. Your purple car looks very cool

I look forward to seeing more BRG pics my car comming up is brg. I chat on this forum a huge amount it does seem. I would like to meet other BRG owners as well like Mike C who arent too far away.

On account of the forum,I changed my car completely around, I learned about driving, it using it, breaking it in.... learned about how to truly detail it, made me spend an extra 2k dollars on it ...

I even got to meet some new friends Soon I will meet some of you.

Well, I *do* ride, and I don't think that daytime running lights on cars have made bikes less visible. Even if the increase in motorcycle crashes noted in the study was statistically significant, I'd be willing to be it had more to do with increased cell phone usage than the use of daytime running lights on cars.

A burning headlamp on a motorcycle stands out, even if there are other vehicles on the road that have running lights burning.

Bikes would only "disappear" into the scenery if we started putting headlamps on things like telephone poles and stop signs.

scott!

I agree. Bikes should have bike only lighting that separates them from the rest of the cars. Ed. Note: Loud pipes dont save lives, cars without morons in them do!
