R50/53 The Ultimate Conquest
Just got back from SF - a friend of mine has a '02 Porsche Turbo (with x-50 package - 460 some HP), when I showed up, in his driveway was a '03 MCS...he drives 'the mountain' - from golden gate to the seashore - 30 minutes of tight switchbacks every day, and feels the mcs can maintain comparable speeds on this type of road - (although of course the Porche will absolutely demolish the mcs in a straight line, along with almost every other car). He can afford whatever car he desires, and the Porche Turbo is now for sale......Go MINI!!
He's selling because 1) the MCS is as much fun for about the cost of ten LEASE payments on the turbo 2) Porsche will nickle and dime you to death - 138k and you still don't have a CD player, $640 oil changes with "maintanence checks", $1250 for tires every 6k miles, 3) he owns his own business and what better way to present a pretentious image to your customers than a Porsche Turbo. The MINI - everyone loves it and is totally not pretentios - AND all his tools fit in the car.....I never did race the two, but in back to back driving I must tell you the porsche absolutely explodes out of corners and the all wheel drive certainly adds security on rough and sandy corners. I just thought it was interesting that that someone who truly enjoys driving, needs to drive "fun" roads daily, and can afford what he wants, would even think to compare the two and choose the MINI
