My positives on the sunroof:

You get almost as much air as the Cabrio but you can still put a roof rack on.
If you have blonde hair, it'll get lighter. I'm proof.
If you have no hair, you'll tan a bit (use sunscreen of course).
You get lots of light in the cabin. Mood enhancer IMO.
No swirl marks on the glass of the sunroof. :-)
Less chance of a break in than in a Cabrio. Anyway, why break the sunroof glass when they can more easily break the door glass? duh?
The A/C w/ sunshade will keep you cool enough on those 110 degree days. We did it this year and my wife deals with Multiple Sclerosis - not a heat friendly disease.
GET THE SUNROOF! :-D

I made my self a retractible opaque shade for the sunroof.....this is NOT a cardboard place-in thing that you put in or out each time you need to use it to block the overhead sun blaring through the mesh...mine is a permanent retractible opaque shade that you can use, or when not in use it rolls up to be basically invisible, and then you can still use or not use the mesh shade or the sunroof glass...you can even have the front half opaque and leave the rear half mesh so the sun overhead is blocked, but light can still filter through the mesh behind in to the car....the shade is shiny and light colored on the outside of the shade to reflect the heat of the sun out of the car. This is easily and permanently attached with no drilling or modificaton and can be removed easily if desires....I posted this elsewhere....I am trying to find a manufacturer but no luck yet....will keep y'all posted

This might umltimately be made in a kit form so the user could choose their own fabric and do a little of the assembly themselves

I love my sunroof. I love having all that glass to look through. I love how how bright it makes the interior; I don't feel like I'm hunkered in some cave. If the sun is really beaming, and it's really hot, I just close the shade, and that helps enough for me. Even if it didn't have a shade, I wouldn't care. There is nothing better than driving at night with all the windows open at 40 MPH, while playing some good music.

For me, it's an emotional decision. Which feels better? Which makes me happy? Having it, or not having it? Having it! End of story.

Man what a great forum. No shortage of responses. Tons of varying opinions, a little bit of bite in some of the responses, perfect ingredients.

Thanks for all the help. I'm getting the sunroof.

I'll be hitting ya'all up for some more help. Hopefully order this baby this weekend.

The configurator is busy on my computer. My future mini , or 'cajeta' as my spanish friend at work calls it ( means "little box" ) , has gone from a $25k box to a 19.8k box and is creeping up past the 22k mark again. hehehehe.

I really love the pepperwhite on pepperwhite.

If you ever need to stand up and change clothes in the car, the sunroof is great.

Guatemala. I teach her English and she teaches me Spanish. A good refresher for me from my HighSchool days.

You won't regret getting the sunroof, and the pepper white is a wonderful color .

Sunroof Yes!!!

I can't even imagine having a car without one! Here in HOTlanta, there are about three months where it's too hot to sit under an open window, but the other nine months more than make up the difference!

There's nothing in the world like driving through the mountains with the sunroof open and wind in my hair, or cruising around in-town with all the windows open and cool jazz on the box...

Every car I've owned since 1992 has had a sunroof, and I've never regretted it for a minute.

My issue with my sun roof is wind noise. I've heard no others complain about this, so maybe something is wrong with mine. At highway speeds you can't hear radio, and have to shout to carry on a conversation w/ co-pilot.

Wind noise with it open, or closed? On the highway, I tend to keep it closed, it can get very noisy! That's why I made sure to specify 40 MPH! Anything over 60 does tend to get really loud. I figure any open window on any car tends to be noisy at speed, no?

I guess you missed my post...

I suppose it noise of the sunroof is made worse by the fact we came from her BMW E36 and my '91 Integra - both of which had sunroofs that retracted into the roof and made very little wind noise when open.

About the only thing good about the sunrrof, IMO, is the rear panel provides a nice spot for the EZ Pass...

The weight of the sunroof is not really all that important. As a few auto-crossers have proved, driver skill and tire choice can make up for the minimal weight increase pretty easily.

One could argue the entire car is too heavy, but applies to all cars today and that's a whole 'nother discussion...

if they could figue out how to make it quiet, I could live with the extra sunlight.

OK, so here is the picture of what can happen to your top-heavy, sunroof laden MINI!

Open Air?

I bought an '06 MCS with sunroof and haven't had any regrets at all...

I've had sunroofs on almost every car I've owned. This is the first one I really enjoy. Heck, half of the roof opens! With the sunroof open and the windows down, I find I enjoy motoring just a little more than with the sunroof closed.

Now, I don't race my Mini in any form, so weight wasn't an issue or factor for me. Up here is Wisconsin we get a good number of 90+ degree days, as well as sub-zero days. Unless it's raining hard, my roof is open on almost every one (that's what the heater and a/c are for, right?).

Well, ok, maybe it also has something to do with my little issue with beans......

Seriously, my experience is that if someone enjoys motoring with open air over their head, but for whatever reason a cabrio isn't appropriate, the Mini sunroof is the way to go...
