First comment about my car today!
So I was feeling hungry and decided to stop by Little Caesar's for their $5 pizza. I parked and left the windows down (since I was parked right outside) and two grandmas in an SUV park next to me. I see them smiling and talking while looking at my direction (my 6th MINI sense starts to tingle and I feel a comment about the car coming) and the next thing you know she says, "LOVE your car!"
I kindly thanked her and went on with my day.
Keep it coming!!!

Haha I just recently got my first comment from a stranger too. Well i got comments from everyone but like a total stranger. I parked in front of a teriyaki place and a lady was talking with a guy. They both looked at my car as it parked in front of them .. smiling. As i got out she says "Omg, its sOo cute". Oh and earlier, the parking ticket lady said she liked my checkered mirror caps. woohoo
At the gas station (ha ha) some folks in a big SUV (what else?!) asked me all sort of questions about my MINI. They said they were thinking of buying one... "How's the ride?" Great for me... "What kind of gas mileage do you get" About 30mpg ..."Is it comfortable on long trips" I told them if you're looking for a smooth ride, don't buy the MINI but if you want to have fun while driving, by all means...
I've gotten compliments from many people, of all different ages. As gas prices go up, the questions about mileage increase. Funny thing, though, those SUV drivers seem totally unimpressed when I tell them I get almost 40 mpg on the highway. The typical response is "Gee, I thought it would be more than that!". Unbelievable!
You'd have thought the "instant attraction" factor of the MINI would have moderated somewhat by now, but it shows no sign of stopping. If anything the opposite seems to be happening.
I frequent a college coffee shop now and again (my son works there) and I've heard comments like, "nice car" and "I want to get one of those someday" from lots of college-aged patrons. A guy stopped me in the parking lot the other day and asked about my MINI. This stuff happens all the time. I'd agree, the price of gas does generate some interest, but more than that I think MINIs just look like they'd be fun to drive. Little do they know.

Coming up on four months since the birth of The Twins. Lots of stares and comments on both of them thus far, but yesterday I experienced a first. Two young ladies in the lane next to me at a traffic light pulled out their camera phone and snapped a shot of the youngest twin (CR).
And yes, cold aspiration, I too get lots of comments on the checkered mirror caps.

This has got to be the best story of MINI comments that I've got...
In July I drove 800 miles to visit my parents, who live in a very small town in Arkansas. My car was so covered in bugs the next morning, that I got up early and went straight to Walmart to buy car washing soap (since my parents were out of it). Thankfully there was almost no one there at 9am on a tuesday. I parked outside the garden dept, so I could just run in. As I was walking through the lady by the door stopped me and asked me about Hobbes, and told me how cute he was. I thanked her, and went on my way to get the soap. When I came back through to check out, there was no one in the garden dept. I looked outside, and all 4 of them were standing around my car! When they noticed I was waiting, they came back in. They all asked me about him as I was checking out. I told them I had driven a long way, and was visiting my parents, and now my car was filthy and I had to wash it. They were all so nice and complimentary! When I left, they all came outside to wave as I drove away.
The whole time I was there I never saw another MINI, so I guess it's understandable.

man, you sound like you are expecting negative comments.
get use to getting 'i love your cute car!' comments especially from the ladies.
Port Orchard WA has many MINIs and it is not unusuall to find one, even a classic ,to park next to when shopping. Even so, if there is someone near when it's time to get in the car, almost everyone has a nice comment to make and many folks want to spend the time to visit. As much as i like going fast on our winding roads in the MINIs I sure like the good feelings from meeting people too.
It should be a rule: all little old ladies should be able to drive a MINI. (if they so desire)
Slightly OT, but a true story....back in late '02 a local high school girl who was dying from some dreaded disease got all excited about the arrival of the new MINI. The local dealer found out about her (lots of folks knew her story) and motored over to let her a drive a MINI. She died soon after. Nice of the dealer to go the extra mile.

I receive lots of comments in Austin, and also lots of looks, which is always funny.
But the best was driving through Arkansas on a road trip.
I pulled into a gas station in the middle of no-where Arkansas, off the side of the highway. Everyone in the gas station came out and circled around my car even before I was able to get out! It was really funny. They all thought it was a kit car that I had built in my garage...oh dear

I visited my mom in Cleveland last weekend. It's only the second time she has seen my car. We were standing in the driveway looking at it, and my mom was talking about it. She said, "It's just so cool, it looks like a little old-fashioned gangster car!" I thought, exactly! In Jet Black, with all the chrome, that's exactly what it looks like to me too. I was so happy to hear her say that!
Owned my Mini S for 2 months. The other day I was in the parking lot and this women behind me says "Nice car"...I say "Thanks"..she says "I always wanted to DO IT in a Mini"...I am known as a quick wit but i will admit that I got stumped on that one. I just smiled and kinda laughed.

You must be married, a hetro woman or morally upright, because otherwise....the response to me seems obvious....
.....okay let's go

That IS wild...but I confess I'd have reacted the same (for the latter reason....and I don't want to scratch the silver trim).
After getting the MINI neighbours in my building who rarely talked to me started approaching me to compliment me. My favourite was my French neighbour from upstairs: "Très, très beaux!" and an emphatic "merveilleux!"
I still get postive comments. But I think my favorite was an unspoken comment from a group of young people. All six turned in unison and gave me and my Mini the thumbs up while grinning like mad.
I'm 49 and I thought it was kind of cool that these younger folks appreciated my car and showed me in the best possible way.
I was walking into a hardware store and some ol chap getting out of an older Pick up. Asked me about gas mileage and other things about my car. He kept looking over my shoulder (at my mini) and smiling.
I have two silly animal-related anecdotes! Was driving around a neighborhood back in 2002, and when we drove past a house on a hilly corner, the dalmation in the yard got VERY excited when it saw the MINI! It started running back and forth, I swear that it smiled, and its tail was wagging like crazy!
Last October, I was visiting friends in Ann Arbor, MI. I went on the Michigan MINIs' Fall Foliage Tour, which had us motoring through beautiful countryside. We stopped at a signal in the middle of some apple orchards and small dairy farms. We were literally 5 feet away from a small herd of cows on the other side of a flimsy-looking fence. One of the cows was very excited by the black MCS I was riding in. I think she thought it was a hot little bull! She rolled her eyes, and was romping playfully near us. So funny!
