Exhaust note, stick vs auto

I have read some threads that mention the exhaust sound being tamer on the auto vs the stick models. Why would this be if both cars use the same exhaust and intake systems? And how much of a difference is it?

the sound during acceleration is similar - it's the burble that is very different. Our 05 MCSa barely burbles at all compared to our 06 MCS.

First guess is that due to the torque convertor, the engine does not get to rev down as quickly. Or, the engine software could be different as well....

So, yes, in my exp. it is very true.

I've driven both, the auto sounds tamer, I hypothosize it comes from drivetrain loss and unless I was in manual mode I was runnung way fewer RPMs so it ran quieter.

You'll find the same to be true with any car. My 6 speed Camaro sounds vastly different from the teeming millions of them with automatics just as my 6 speed MCS sounds different from an MCSa.
